Subject: 5k the day before 1/2 mary?

The annual local benefit 5k is this Saturday, the day before a 1/2 mary.  I'd like to do 5k for social reasons .. the start and finish is around the corner from my house and every runner in town will be there, including the jr. high and high school x-country teams.

Am I nuts to do this race before the 1/2 mary?  It will be my 4th 13.1, so I know what I'm getting into. I hope to complete it in 2:10.... I

I did a 9 mile trail run and a 10 mile road race on the same weekend, and PR'ed  on the 10 miler.

Nothing wrong with a short, easy-paced run on the day before a race. Enjoy your social experience.

Probably not the best way to set yourself up for the best possible 1/2 Mary time.

But if it is fun and social stuff is important too beyond times; enjoy the 5K but go easy.

I did an 8k the day before my 1/2 last year.  Didn't try to race the 8k and I still did ok on the 1/2 marathon.  I'm planning on the same thing next year (it's the Shamrock Dolphin challenge)

Doesn't sound like a bad plan to me, but then I'm a newbie at this stuff.

Of course you could always go down to Disney some year and do the 5k Friday, 1/2 mary Saturday and full mary on Sunday.

Dang that would have been fun in my younger years before my body started giving me fits.

Have a great weekend doing the 5k and 1/2 mary!

I think I've done a 5k in my sleep. I guess the better question would be to ask yourself if you can handle it. If you are mentally psyching yourself out maybe it's not a good idea. I have no idea of your ability so it's kind of hard to say.

If you want to meet your goal for the 1/2, just take the 5k easy. Don't compete with the XCountry teams.

Done it. Except in 2006 when we did it the 1/2 and the 5k were the same day. It made for a very rough Sunday.

But ya know, you just can't replace good times at an easy, fun race:

I agree with the others who said to just take it easy and you should be fine. I know after I do 5Ks there is no hard-core running for me the next day, but I go all out and am terribly sore the next day. But after an easy 5K run around my neighborhood, I'm fine the next day to do whatever I want.

Thanks for your responses.....

I'm leaning toward doing the 5K and taking it easy (which is hard for me to do in a short race).  I've cut down on the running this week, so I should be in good shape.

Wish me luck!

Yeah, but what we really need is the finish line picture of the person who tripped the duck.
