October 11, 2007 - Soma Quarterman Course Change - Attention Quarterman athletes, the 2007 Soma Quarterman bike course will have minor alterations due to recent road construction and requests from the City of Tempe.  The new map will be posted this weekend.  The new distance will be posted this afternoon, however it will be approximately 4 miles shorter for the Quarterman only.

I guess it's going to be an 'almost quarterman' on the bike portion. I didn't see the distance posted yet, but you can check for yourself @ http://www.redrockco.com/.  Curious to see the map this weekend.

Annoying. I wondered how they were going to get us 28 on an 18 mile course to begin with.

Not a problem, Sally - we can make an extra long run course four you to do! (or, if you prefer, we can extend your swim to give you the extra milage )

This is great news... I'll only have to see Sally lap me once this race.

I am a little sad as the distance was going to help me close the swim gap with that Vegas traveling dude!

Oh well, just have to make it work or hit the Hash run right after the quarterman.

UPDATE:

Yesterday the Red Rock Company announced the plan for the new Quarterman bike course since we were not approved for different road closures in Tempe. Our area of main concern is the corner of Rio Salado and Mill Avenue on the Second lap for the Quarterman.  It is very dangerous, and we wanted to avoid athletes turning there on their second loop.
We have been approved for the Quarterman athletes to do a Second 'Half Lap' this morning.  This will make the Quarterman course 25 miles instead of 28 but will make it much more safe for the Half and Quarterman Athletes.
Here are the new changes:  All Quarterman athletes will do one complete 18.7 mile first lap.  Your second lap will start exactly like your first lap.  The only difference is you will bypass the Mill Avenue Loop and go straight over Mill while going west bound on Rio Salado, towards transition.
If you have questions about the course, new maps will be posted today and you can call our athlete service line at (480) 226-4729.
