OK BT Peeps - MCM is right around the corner.  If the weather stays like it is this weekend, we are in for a treat.

This is my first marathon - so my goal is to have fun and post a 4:45 time or better.  If you are so inclined, post your target time here.

PM me if you'd like my cellphone so we can hook up before or after the race.

Gonna be a blast!

Tommy

Really hoping this weather holds - great for running.

I'd like to see 4:45. I'll be pleased with anything under 5, but my overarching goal is to be walking w/o a limp 2 days after. If that means I end up walking more in the race, then so be it.

I'm VERY excited for MCM this year!  We should have a great time, it was AWESOME fun last year.

My goal is just to go under last year's time of 3:58:01.  If it's 3:57:59, I'll still be happy.

Also, here's another question.  Do we want to organize a BT pre-race dinner?  We had a blast at the dinner last year.  There is a race-organized dinner, but it's already sold out, and from what I've heard, it's not that good.  We went to a small (too small) Italian place last year and we met lots of great peeps.  This year we'll need to find a bigger place, but I'd still love to organize something if we can.  Lemme know your thoughts.

Congrats to the first-timers for signing up and training. Good luck and have fun.

This will be my tenth marathon, and is the 10th anniversary of my first marathon. I did MCM in '97 and I'm back for an anniversary run. I loved this race 10 years ago and hope it's as good as my memory thinks it is. And let's hope the weather is better this year than in '97 - it poured all day long and was cold.

I am shooting for a Boston Qualifying time - so let's hope I come across the finish line in 3:39:59 or better.

Hi everyone!  This is my first marathon.  I jockstrapped for my best friend last year and was so inspired that I signed up this year.  This year has been a year of firsts for me in the endurance arena, including my first sprint and oly triathlons.  I'm hoping to just finish and not look like I'm about to die like some of the folks I saw finishing last year.  My uber goal is to finish around the 4:15 mark.   We'll see.  I'm really happy with how my training has gone and I'm looking forward to just enjoying the day.  Hope to meet some BT'ers there as well.

 Good luck everyone!

Yes, let's plan a dinner!

My first as well. My goal is to finish w/o walking. I've trained to break 4 hours but having never run more than 20 miles, we'll see. I mostly plan on having fun!

edited to add: I plan on packet pick-up around noon on saturday.

Cool!  OK, I'll do some research and see what we can do for dinner options.  I'm assuming a place that has a range of food including pasta and protein is OK with everyone?

Mark, just an FYI...the line at 9am last year was an hour long.  By noon it was twice that.  If you can get there earlier, I definitely suggest trying to.  It was literally around the block, and down the next street.

Thanks but my flight lands at 10:30 so noon is about the earliest I figure. I'm glad I know what to expect going in.  I'll just deal.

Patti (PT Cruzer) and I will also be there on Friday, getting in at 1:00 PM.  Staying in the Marriott Crystal City right next to the Metro station.  Our plan is to meet Betsy and G and do the packet pickup thing on Friday.  We'll be playing tourist also on Saturday.  We'd like to show up for a BT dinner, but with my wife being not so mobile, I'd prefer an eatery within a 10 minute walk of a Metro stop if possible.  Otherwise, I'm wondering if it might be less hectic if we met for a Saturday lunch?  I just remember how crazy it was last year, waiting outside the restaurant for an hour before getting in.  There is no guarantee that the weather will be as good!

I think a Saturday lunch may be a bit harder to coordinate since some people are getting in on Saturday.  Alot of us have to get our packets too.  I'm definitely OK with putting the dinner within walking distance of the Max/Patti headquarters.  With the city being so accessible via the Metro, I'm sure we all get to where Max and Patti are staying.  I'll center my restaurant research around that area.

Are you bringing that Timberman rain with you?  I'm packing extra stuff just in case.  Like hip waders maybe!!

Hello BT MCM'ers!!

Just to let you know, I will be up there.  I am going to be working the Brooks booth on Friday from 1500 - 2030 and Saturday 0830 - 1430.

Can't guarentee and "BT discounts" yet, but I can say that I would love to meet BTers.  Stop by, I'll be the dorky dark guy.

Timberman 06, Harriman 07 it's all the same.  Rob once told me bad weather makes for great memories. Damn him! At least everyone has been warned and now they have someone to blame!

I hope the dinner works out. I look forward to seeing you.

Hey guys!  Here's a weather update for ya...  High of 82 this afternoon.  This is the middle of Oct, right?  Looks like it will cool down a bit just before our big weekend.  If anyone can bring some rain with them, we'd really appreciate it!  I live in the suburbs just west of DC and we've got some major water restrictions going on due to a 10+" deficit of rainfall over the summer.  Bottom line:  if ya got speed, if ya got endurance, if ya got fun, if ya got rain... bring it!!! and let's rock MCM07!

Can't wait to see everyone!

I was gonna turtle right along with you at a 5 hour pace too, but a foot injury is relegating me to the 10-K (hopefully).  I've already sold my marathon entry and re-registered for the shorter course.  Worse case is I'll just be a spectator, but my wife and I will be there no matter what.  The plan is to go to the expo on Friday afternoon!

Actually this is on my agenda for tonight!  I have tons of chores to do at home so I figured tonight would be the best time time to nail this down.  I should have some suggestions tonight or tomorrow morning.  Stay tuned!

Edit:  I did a quick search of the area and found out that Max and Patti's hotel is right next to the Crystal City Shops...the following restaurants reside there...

Bailey’s Pub & Grille - Sports bar type place

Bebo Trattoria - Italian, casual

Jaleo Spanish Tapas & Bar - Spanish type stuff

Hamburger Hamlet - Self explanatory

King Street Blues - Old fashioned comfort foods

McCormick & Schmick’s - Steak...expensive!!

Morton’s The Steakhouse - Steak...even more expensive!

Neramitra Thai - Modern Thai

Ruth’s Chris Steak House - Way too pricey for what you get.

San Antonio Bar & Grill - Tex Mex

Ted’s Montana Grill - Owned by Ted Turner...American classic stuff

OK, so that's that...and there's also the Pentagon City Fashion Center Mall up the street.  Accessible by Metro with almost no walking.  Metro from hotel to mall basically.

I'm sure there are other restaurants around as well.  The hotel is on US1, and is near Addison Heights, in which there are tons of restaurants and stuff.  I'm sure we'll have many options.

DISCUSS!!
