Run
Comments: I planned to go out fairly easy, I didn't want to die at mile 10-11. So I likely didn't go out quite as hard as I should have. In my defense I have not been running this distance, and most of the runs that have gone over 6-8 miles I have felt like heck the last x miles. Looking back I think MOST of that was the heat, when you run 10 miles and it is all in 80-90 degree heat, it takes a lot out of you. I didn't play dodge runner today, I started out mid pack and just ran easy the whole way. I didn't talk a whole lot, figured I wanted to save my energy for the run. I did talk to a couple of folks, but not a whole lot. When I hit the half way mark, I ran into Amy who had run several marathons and was running with a friend. She asked if I was trying to break 2:00 and I told her I thought I was 2-3 minutes behind that time. I had not really planned on breaking 2:00 today. I was just running smooth and feeling pretty good. Hit the 7 mile mark at just under 65 minutes. I knew I had a couple of miles well over the 9:09 to hit 2:00. At mile 10 I started working a little harder, that was about the point when Amy came by me again. Her friend was having some problems and didn't want to run with her. I picked up running with Amy for a little bit there, but she soon passed me. About 1/2 mile or 1 mile after that I ran into her again. She had found another group of friends and was chatting up a storm. I passed them and really started thinking I had a chance to break 2 hours. Hit the 10 mile mark and knew all I had to do was run a sub 28:00 5K. So I pushed and made it under the 2 hour mark. I think the offical time was 1:59:47 but I will see once they post it online. What would you do differently?: Not a whole lot. I was very pleased with this run. Post race
Warm down: Walked around grabbed a coupld slices of pizza and some water. Waited while they drew names for the door prizes, since one of the prizes was an entry to Disney's marathon. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not working hard enough, not running enough. Event comments: A great race and a good flat race for a beginner at this distance. Up at 7:00 grabbed a clif bar and ate that, got dresses and headed out the door. Got to the race site at 45 minutes until the race started, picked up my race number, hit the bathroom did my business there. Headed back to the car dumped the extra stuff, and dropped my jacket, and sweat pants there.
Headed back in and talked to a buddy from the tri-club. Saw a sign telling us to double check our numbers, and noticed that they gave me the WRONG number. Went back and got the RIGHT number.
No warm up, I figured I would warm up in the first mile. Walked to the start line about 1/2 mile away.
