Subject: 1st recovery week
I have been training 5 days on 2 off for the last month and I have reached the point where I had decided to include a recovery week. I dont feel that I really need it because I feel good and because of a recent knee surgery I started small. I am on the treadmill 3 days a week for 34 mins broken into 10 min walk, 14 min bike, and 10 min walk. This is on MWF. On T, Th I ride the stationary bike for 35 mins. I would like some input on my recovery week. At this point do you think I really need it? If so, what should it be like. I was thinking of reducing both running and walking 30-50 percent but staying with the bike. Please let me know what you all think.

Recovery weeks are always good.

They are particularly effective if your previous "build up" weeks 1-4 have been progressively challenging.

Just drop back 40 percent from your 4th week volume...and that should be plenty sufficient for this recovery week for you.

Do you use a HR monitor?

Also, check out the training programs on this site. They provide a great general guideline to follow.
