Comments: The plan here was simply to have a good time. About 9 of us were in costume and I went with a more conservative costume vs some of my other options. This had decent vision, ventilation (or so I thought) and easy mobility. The gun went off and we kind of grouped together for the first few miles. At mile three I really needed to find a bathroom so tacked on another .3 miles on the course running to a pavilion to eliminate some of the prior nights overhydration. After splitting from the group I needed to catch up. This had me pick up the pace. Not knowing what I could pull off in a clown suit, I was suprised to see 6:20s on the Garmin. We had previously been chugging around at 10-10:30s. Seeing that my legs had some go to em despite fatigue recently, I decided at mile five or six I would go 'clowning', that is just pass who I could on the way back. Mutri came along with me and we broke the splits down about 3 minutes per mile or so from the original pace. Visibility and movement in the costume was great, but breathing in stale rubber air as the tempo picked up was kinda nasty. PeterAKs girlfriend was ahead of us and we caught her with about three to go. We snuck up on her and I let a maniacal clown laugh which starlet her and her had got cut on my oversized metal zima bottle. I felt like a total knob for that. After seeing she was ok, we zipped off just south of 7's. The wind pushed and bent my zima placard like a sail but I kept zipping by folks. All was going well until I saw the beer table about .4 from the finish. This kind of put a damper on my time (yeah, like I was concerned anywho). Took my time on a very nice cup o beer, chatted with a guy I know from TriWis and then caught up to scoobysdad and finished it out. Fun run all around! splits: 10:23 10:33 10:26 9:26 (includes bathroom break) 8:43 7:41 7:26 6:54 6:55 .6 miles @13:21 avg pace (beer stop!) What would you do differently?: Nada. Next year I am going with a more cumbersome, obnoxious costume choice. It was good to do some tempo, but I should have stuck back with my other homies more. We made up for it at the bar though. If I cared about this race, dont drink night before, dont wear clown costume and dont carry big metal Zima bottle placard for 9+ miles. Post race
Warm down: Wait for other donks, head to Ale House for a bloody and some grub. What limited your ability to perform faster: Context of the race. This was for fun dammit. I was actually disappointed to see the low number of costumed runners being so close to Halloween and all, but the Donks represented well. Event comments: Fun race all around. Cant remember how many aid stations, but enough so someone who cared about racing wouldnt die out there or nuthin'. Last updated: 2007-10-28 12:00 AM

I have spent all season doing what I had to do before races- eating clean, cutting stuff out, etc, etc. This was to be a fun run dammit and the night before was a steak dinner and drinks with TriDDS and our wives, then a few pints with PeterAK. AM was wake up stuffed and hung over, eat a cliff bar and try to drink something for damage contol. Met up with about 15 donks, laced up my clown suit and got ready to go.
Talked a bit, took some pictures, just jerked around.
