FIRM
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 16m 19s
Overall Rank = 70/202
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 3/16
Pre-race routine:

A bad one. I was up way too late the night before drinking beer and watching the Sox in game 3 of the World Series. I wouldn't have done it any differently though :)
I hydrated so well on the ride up that I had to pee 3 times before the race

For some reason, I was really dreading this race... feeling anxious... looking for any excuse not to go.
Event warmup:

20 minutes or so of jogging. A couple of stride outs.

Here's the part where I look around at everybody and think "wow, these people look fast!"
Run
  • 22m 31s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

I started out too fast.
What would you do differently?:

Work on pacing.
Transition 1
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

I was a little sluggish through the transition
Bike
  • 34m 23s
  • 11 miles
  • 19.20 mile/hr
Comments:

My seat came loose. Maybe in transport? In any case, it was rocking freely throughout the ride :) I could have pulled over and tried to fix it, but I was afraid that would cost me more time than just riding with it loose, so I chose the latter. It was OK, but did require me to work a little harder because I couldn't rest on the seat.
What would you do differently?:

Check my equipment more carefully before racing :)
Transition 2
  • 01m 17s
Run
  • 16m 35s
  • 2 miles
  • 08m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

whew, the second run is definitely tougher. I was sluggish. The seat issue may have wore my legs out a little extra too.
What would you do differently?:

I would have done more bricks in training. I would have moved through the transitions more quickly also.
Post race
Warm down:

None really. What a blast the race was though! I'm definitely doing this again. Maybe in costume next year :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The seat may have affected my bike speed and I might not be at full capacity because I broke a rib 3 weeks ago. I don't think these things were as big factors as they sound like they might be though.

Nice job especially considering your "pre race routine" Been there, celebrated that

Look at your AG placings; excellent day! Still a real good bike split and you say it was windy! Nice!

I hate equipment failure races. I did 20min in a cyclocross race w/o a saddle after I broke the seatpost retaining bolt and it flew off. Happened to Ned Overend once too; my friend has the autographed saddle from that one.

Sweet souvenir....  Ned Overend's signed and broken saddle!

You definitely beat me out doing a cross race without a seat.  My seat was wobbly, but it was usable.

As always, really nice performance.  See how much fun racing is when there is no swim
