Subject: Best Aerobars for a Road Bike Geometry
I've been looking to buy a set of shorty aerobars for my Cannondale road bike. From sites I've read it is probably a bad idea to put a standard tri bar on a road bike, so I've been looking at the Profile Jammer GT (and the carbon CGT version). I like the adjustable nature of those bars (length, width, rotation) versus some others out there. Anyone using either of those bars or have a better recommendation (other than buying a tri bike)?

Thanks!

I got the same advice from my never-wrong local bike shop guy. I had tried Deda clip-ons, and I was way too flat to be able to sustain any power. He recommended the CGT which I subsequently bought. Now if I can only get my husband to put them on my bike, i can give you a first-person account of how well (or not) they work! [By way of self defense: i can install the bars fine, but my cables are going to have to be adjusted to make room, and that's a sizeable job I'd rather leave to the "expert."]

I have a cannodale R900 that I ride/train/race with for sprint/olympic/IM distance races.

I use Profile Design Split Second. They are a 2-piece clip-on so width of pads is very adjustable. Pads flip up so bar tops are easily accessible for climbing in the saddle. Though not shorties, they work well for me.

I'd recommend finding a local bike shop that does full biodynamic bike fit. Luckily, Madison has one of the best bike fitters in the country, CronoMetro. That's where I got mine fitted. I went from being able to maintain an aero position for 5 minutest to 1hr+ after the fitting. It's the best money you can spend if you want to make a road bike aero. Even with shorties, you will lose power w/o a proper fitting on your bike

Good Luck!

I originally bought the Jammer GT bars but they have a sharp "U" turn that put my hands in a position I didn't like...plus they were rather short. I decided to spend a little more and picked up a set of Profile Carbon Stryke and they are great...all the adjustment your could ever want and a very natural hand position. They run about $120 but are well worth it IMHO. I have them on a compact geometry Specialized Allez Comp road bike.

Ditto on the Carbon Strykes. I had a pair of short aerobars (slam bars?) and I didn't like them at all. I felt "scrunched up" when I used them. The Carbon Strykes are very adjustable.

Profile Design Aerolite. Completely adjustible, clip onto any std. road bar. I especially like the fact that they have a length adjustment.

I have a standard road bike and love the things. I wonder how i got along without them in the first place. I *did* get a fit from the shop though - they moved the seat forward and lowered the stem a little. I highly recommend getting a fit done with the aerobar install - otherwise the comfort you are looking for with the aerobars might not be so readily found.

Well, I've installed the Profile Jammer CGT bars on my bike, and after some adjustments, I find I like them very much. I must say I am a female and have a short torso, so I need the shorter bars (that's why they were recommended to me).
