I'm amazed!  I grew up in Roch and as I may have complained about before, that place really sucked when I lived there.  Glad they are getting their act together.  Oronoco is a pretty area, that will be nice.  But why, oh, why must they put the long run at the end?  Don't they know that the second run in a du is just about survival?  Hmm.  Well, I might have to try this one out.

I will probably volunteer since I would have the unfair advantage of not having to steer my bike because it has been on those roads so many times. That course is just over a mile from my house.

Dude!  Why wouldn't you do it for that reason?  It's a great opportunity to shine.

There is a 20k in town the day before, so I could race that then volunteer. I'll wait and see. The idea of just riding my bike to the race does have a certain appeal to it.

I know! That was my first reaction as well! I can barely make it through a 10k at all, not to mention as the second run of a du! Ack.

I had the same gut reaction to that second run.   Gack!  I don't think my running will be up to that by spring.  I'll probably volunteer though.  I'm so glad to see some more races down here.  Rah, rah, Rochester!  Tongue out

Aww... too bad it is the same day as the Ironman Century ride, I would have totally done this otherwise.

Small world, the course goes right by my house(75th st NW) too. Although it will be an accomplishment for me to finish so I don't think that I will have any unfair advantage.

Thanks for the heads-up everyone.

This race (the long course) will be the start of my IM WI '08 official training season.

Hello Everyone! I am the Race Director for the Winter Begone! Duathlon you all have been talking about. Now to answer some of your questions. First I need to say that we have recently added a short distance to the duathlon, it is 2 mi Run/ 12 mi Bike/ 2 mi Run. We added it for participants not ready to handle the longer distances. When I chose the course length for the long distance duathlon, I was targeting the Olympic Distance Duathlon distances of 5K/40K/10K, but I had to limit the bike course to a 30K. There are so many duathlons around that are the 5K/20mi/5K style. Most of them have the run be the same course a second time. Well, those events are fine, I just wanted to do something different and create a challenging event. The 10K Run at the end requires the duathlete to pace themselves on the bike course. I live very close to the venue and I can tell you the bike course is quite nice. The roads are mostly new with plenty of shoulder on most of the course. The course is a mixture of small town area, open road, wooded areas, rolling hills, flats, and a residential area. So, anyway, come on over to Oronoco (10 miles north of Rochester) to have some fun during one of the seasons first multi-sport events. If you have any questions related to this event, please don't hesitate to contact me. You can reach by the website: www.winterbegoneduathlon.com or via email. Check out our other key event the 1st Annual Rochesterfest Triathlon on June 29th, 2008. This event will be a big one for us. You can find out more information about the tri at www.winmultisportevents.com.

Take care,
