Overcast
Total Time = 2h 01m 21s
Overall Rank = 54/62
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 7/8
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:45 to drive down. Took about 1:30 minutes to get there. Had a plain whole wheat bagel and some coffee. My stomach was in KNOTS the whole way down. Hot flashes - a couple of times I felt like I was going to vomit all over myself. I guess I'm not recovered from my son's mystery illness. Got there around 7:30, unloaded, registered, got my packet and then basically stood around for 1.5 hours before I got warmed up.
Event warmup:

Did a little running for 5 minutes or so, then some stretching, and some bouncing until the start.
Run
  • 30m 12s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran the whole way which is exciting for me. It was a slow jog as my stomach was unsettled - my secret pace was around 28minutes
What would you do differently?:

Dress more appropriately. It was windy, but wasn't really a problem on the run.
Transition 1
  • 01m 12s
Comments:

I didn't put my shoes on until after I got out to the pavement. Bikes were on a grassy knoll, and I didn't want clogged cleats. That was slow. I did strap in while on the bike though, so I didn't spend any time on shoelaces.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure - maybe wear the coffee shop cleat covers until I get on the bike.
Bike
  • 54m 17s
  • 15.5 miles
  • 17.13 mile/hr
Comments:

I was happy with my pace considering the wind and my stomach conditions.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I would have been faster without the headwind most of the race - man, it was STIFF!
Transition 2
  • 01m 37s
Comments:

Was fairly smooth. No issues.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Run
  • 34m
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

I died here. Around mile 1, my stomach went into the knots that plagued me during the drive down. It was awful. When I was running, I felt like it was a good pace, but I just couldn't ignore the pain.

I expected to do poorly on this section of the race. I am not surprised by the time, but I was secretly hoping that I would come in around 30-31 minutes. Given all the stuff that I've had to do this year and put up with (moving and ankle sprain), I didn't expect any PR's. That being said, I think the first 5k was a PR.
What would you do differently?:

Train more, not get sick.
Post race
Warm down:

Not much.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training, health, weather. 1.5 things I can control. 1.5 things I can't control.

Event comments:

It was well organized, and we were well prepared for some strange things on the course. Steep descents into sharp turns, and the like. The volunteers were helpful and were at every major intersection waving flags and issuing verbal instructions.

Argh... you don't seem to have a good 2007 - either too injured that you ahve to pull out of races, or race while sick.

Glad you still race.  Grat pace on the 1st run, too.  The wind was a killer.

It is great to see you out racing..that is very cool!

Bummer your stomach felt so bad and that had to effect your race.

Nice work...keep staying healthy and I see an excellent 2008 for you!
