Total Time = 1h 52m 43s
Overall Rank = 153/323
Age Group = 40-49
Age Group Rank = 14/41
Pre-race routine:

Arrived in time to get # & shirt & use the porto potty.
Event warmup:

Jogged in place and stretched at the starting line.
Run
  • 1h 52m 43s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

These rankings may change as it sounds like quite a few people who signed up for the half ended up doing the 10k. Before the race I was thinking 10 min pace would be good, but just ran at a level I thought I could continue - was amazed when I looked at my pace after a couple miles so tried to keep running at under 9 min miles. I think the 3 days off helped me get my energy back. And not having to stop at porto potties along the way helped too! Glad I had fuelbelt so didn't have to slow down at aid stations. Had a few sips of water every 2 miles and had a double shot espresso cliff shot at about halfway mark. Probably could have run harder - got bored at one point and noticed I had slowed down. Also had enough left at the end to haul @$$ to finish so could have put that to use earlier.
What would you do differently?:

Not be sick.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to the porto potty and to the car for warm clothes. Stretched a bit during awards. Chatted w/ BTers.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Just getting started with the training - ran my first 10 milers in 20 years last month. Stomach issues. Overweight.

Event comments:

Nothing going on after but eating pancakes, which I can't eat so Ted had mine. Awards were gift certs for Runners Roost which was decent. No massage, few booths, no music. But it was a pretty run and a beautiful day after the sun warmed things up a bit. Seemed like a lot of confusion over who actually ran the half since some people bailed and did the 10k instead and didn't tell the race people. Also, hardly anyone stayed to the right of cones, so how far did they run? Maybe it didn't make much difference. Timing chips would have helped, but for $35 I got a cool shirt and a good run w/ nice people. Had fun chatting w/ other runners along the way. Fun to meet Drew, Kathy & Trixie!
Yay! Finished in top 34% in my AG, top 47% of all women.

Wow...great race!

To go out thinking 10's would be nice and run 8:36 m/m is impressive.

Top 1/3 of your AG...truly inspiring.

Keep up training smart and just think sub 1:45 1/2 Mary will be attainable
