Subject: tri Clubs in Boston area

Hi All!!

I am thinking of moving back to Boston...I am originally from framingham, but left 12 years ago, but I know think it's time to come back. But, I love my tri group in Florida. We train together with a coach (who is the founder of the tri club), have run and swim groups as well as bricks planned around local races. Is there anything like this in the Boston area. I would be sad to lsoe the commrodary I have by being a part of the club.

Thanks for any help!

-Jamie

Jamie,

Do you have any idea where in the Boston area you would want to live when you come back?  Depending on that, there are a number of clubs to choose from.  I live in Framingham now, and I'm active in two local clubs.  The first is the Landry's Triathlon Club, which is sponsored by Landry's Bicycles in Natick and Westborough.  The second is a new team, the Joints in Motion Triathlon Team, which is supported by and raises money for the Arthritis Foundation.  The folks in the Landry's group are generally more experienced, but the Joints in Motion team is more active in terms of coaching and group workouts, similar to your current club.

Thanks for everyones response...I would most likely move close to Boston (newton, Brookline, Boston, Back Bay etc...)  I chekced out the links , but would probably have to check out the clubs before making any decision.  Three are a ton of things that need to happen before I come up...like sell my business and get a nwe job..so it won't be anything less than 6 months from now.  I jsut needed to put feelers out there.

Thanks!

Jamie

Jamie,

Good luck with the move and all that involves.

There are lots of great tri teams but finding one that is close to you is key. I live in the middle of now where and all the tri team training isn't close. It isn't practical to go an hour to do a run workout and an hour home when I work and have 5 kids.

My tri team is great but unless you live in the area you miss out on the training.

There are two women tri teams that are pretty neat if you end up moving to near where they are.

thanks Kathy...as soon as I figure all this out (selling my business is gonig to be harder than I anticipated), I am gonig ot amke my decision.  I am prety spoiled with my tri group.  It is in my town and my cach is the town over from me.  And it is such a nice traiing and social group...it would be one of the most things I would miss by moving back to Boston

definitely check out Team Envision.  It's an all-women's team and they do a lot of activities together, not just training.  And they do plenty of that too.

I personaly train with BT and localy with Trifury http://www.trifury.com/ . Trifury is based mostly in the Merrimack Valley area and welcomes all levels of triathlets. The team has a major sponsor with Cycle Loft in Burlington.

Other teams I have heard of and not realy mentioned. Team Psycho (I believe is Boston based with a lot of hard core members).

Belmont Wheel Works in, where else, Belmont has a team.

I have also seen people racing with Fast Splits gear on. They are a tri store in the area. Not sure if they sponsor individual racers, or actualy have a club atmosphere.

Good luck with the potental move. Let us know when you come back home.

BTW,if you manage to be up and settled into the Mass area by August, I have a race to suggest. The somewhat official BT race/social is held at Cranberry Country in Lakeville Ma. We have had a gathering there for 3 years. We have had at least 10-30 people at each one, and it continues to grow. I bring it up because it sells out normaly in June, so I just figured you might like it on your long range BT calander.

Good luck again, Joe (unofficial Cranberry social cheerleader)

I agree, there are tons of Boston teams out there, but a lot of what would work best for you depends on where you are living.

Wheelworks Multisport (www.ww-ms.org ) is my team and they are based out of Somerville/Belmont. If you  are planning to live close to the city, that might be a good option since a lot our our training rides and events start closer to the city (cambridge/belmont/arlington...). Registration closes at the end of Dec i think, but check the site for details if your interested, but I can answer any other specific questions about the team if you want. It is a great group of triathletes at all levels and we've got some really supportive sponsors.

I've also heard good things about the boston triathlon team and trifury as well.
