Total Time = 1h 52m 25s
Overall Rank = 37/117
Age Group = M
Age Group Rank = 21/45
Pre-race routine:

Get there early, hydrate and relax. Ate a bagel with cream cheese on the way.
Event warmup:

Light jog to the starting line which is 3/4 mile away.
Swim
  • 22m 46s
  • 2625 yards
  • 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

This is not a swim. It is a 3/4 mile run followed by approximately 1.5 mile canoe.
What would you do differently?:

Pay attention to the rules more closely. We assumed paddles would be in the boats but had to go back for them costing about 15 positions. Also don't be so polite when a team couldn't or wouldn't get out of there boat and get there feet wet in order to get going. Lost about 10 positions waiting for them.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Couldn't get my helmet to snap. Wasted a lot of time.
What would you do differently?:

Check my helmet and drink on the bike not in transition.
Bike
  • 57m 48s
  • 14 miles
  • 14.53 mile/hr
Comments:

Pretty tough bike course and it was hot.
What would you do differently?:

Need to strength train my legs more. Obviously spending not enough time on a bike!
Transition 2
  • 00m
What would you do differently?:

Wouldn't drink so much in transtion. Made me cramp but probably didn't matter as this is a team event and could only go as fast as my teammate could.
Run
  • 28h 10m 23s
  • 3.3 miles
  • 8h 32m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

This is a 2 man competition so had to wait for my partner who was cramping a bit.
What would you do differently?:

Train, train, train. The was both of our 1st ever Tri event so was quite a learning experience.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wasn't prepared enough for hills on the bike.

Event comments:

Good race for a great cause. Great race for non swimmers (as long as you don't fall out of your canoe) and a very challenging bike course.

1st triathlon I have ever competed in and I am hooked. Great location, great event and a fantastic cause. As my partner(colesdad) indicated it was a learning experience and one that will be built on. I realized I need to work on my running, especially since I cramped, which I have done by competing in 5k and 5 mile running events. Will be better prepared for next year. I, along with my partner intend to compete in this event annually. Attractive event for an non-swimmer or mediocre swimmer such as myself.
