It's Friday again...TGIF!

So how'd everyone do? Was the scale fairy good to you this week? Any progress on your secondary goals?

Question of the week: What's going to be (or for our Canadian friends, what was) on the Thanksgiving menu? Are you making any changes to the menu to "healthy it up"?

Hope everyone had a fantastic week! (There's a progress chart in the old thread, but it's missing a few late weights...I'll update it Friday morning b/c the spreadsheet is on my work computer & post it here for everyone's review.)

Am at 130 today but i think i am dehydrated as i have been 1 or 2 pounds more all week..... so i have given the lower calories three weeks... I have been trying to eat at around 1650- 1700 which should give me a daily deficit of 500-600 calories, as i do around 9 hours of training a week, this hasn't worked.... so either i go lower or higher... or I could go back to high fat low carb which worked well for me in the past, but its pretty frustrating to be very strict and see not change after 6 or so weeks

sadly I injured my shoulder last Friday either swimming or weight training (i don't know which as i woke up in pain on Saturday) so I haven't been able to meet my secondary swimming goal this week....

sorry don't do thanksgiving, but hope you all have great celebrations with family and friends

Last week - 145.6
This week - 145.2

Loss of .4 . At least it is a loss. My brother will be in charge of Thanksgiving dinner this year. He is quite the foodie, so I'm sure it will be something good. In the past, he has done pork tenderloin and various hams with glazes. My kids are used to traditional turkey and dressing. I told them if their Uncle has something "weird" we would do turkey and dressing for Christmas. Have a great holiday, my fellow Americans!

Finally a little movement!  I tried to be more conscious of portion sizes, eating more fruits and vegetables, and actually got a couple of workouts in
Last week: 127.5
This week: 126.5
For Thanksgiving we are going to friends.  I am cooking stuffing, a beet and green bean salad, and a pie.  The stuffing will not be healthy .  I am a bit fan of having lots of vegetables available though, so you can fill up on those and enjoy moderate portions of the unhealthy stuff!

WHOOO WHOOOO WHOOOO! The scale has moved!

To borrow from Chudley, who says it so well...

Kristen is down to 156.

So I finally got off the 159-160 stuck mark and I'm thrilled. Unfortunately, it seems to coincide mostly with me dropping my calories from the 2000 range to the 1850 range, which makes me sad because I really want to eat 2000 calories. But, putting that aside, I'm excited.

I'm starting to think I just might end up a non-Athena afterall. (Yes, I know - there's still a ways to go...but I believe I can do it!

Our Thanksgiving this year will be small - just hubby & the monkeys & me. But 2 changes we tried last year that worked well are 1) using whole wheat bread in the stuffing (more fiber) and 2) making a pumpkin cheesecake instead of pumpkin pie. (I can't compete with my hubby's grandma's pie anyway, so the cheesecake is a win-win...it is lower cal/lower carb/higher protein than normal pie but it still satisfies the pumpkin-dessert need.)

Hope everyone is having a great week.

Kristen

Well, another so-so week. On the average, my body fat readings seem to be headed in the downward direction. And I was weighing in at 141 pounds earlier in the week, until I fell off the diet wagon later this week.

Not sure what last week's weight was: 142.5?
This week: 143

In the off season, it turns out I like to sleep more than go to swim practice or early morning runs

Ugh, 180 today.  I haven't been terrible this week, but not really good either.  The stress of trying to get ready for a cross-country trip with the kids is getting to me.  I am heading out to run now, and will hopefully manage some workouts while we are on vacation.  I know part of my problem has been having coffee instead of water and I have justified a few too many treats.  Gotta keep having the water this week.

Wish me luck for my trip, as flying with two little kids from one Washington to the other fills me with dread!  Although hopefully mine are in good moods and will also nap!    My dad has ordered a full Thanksgiving dinner from somewhere, so I have no idea what it will consist of.  I will just have small portions and no seconds.  Have a great week, everyone!

Good day all,

just thought I'd weigh in before I go back to work and forgot again. Sorry Kristen. But I do have some good news....

I am down 2.1 lbs to 163.4lbs from the last weigh in of 165.5 lbs.

I have been really good and working out hard and had a PR run too. So I am having a wonderful week. I hope everyone is also doing really well.

Have a great day all and now back to work!!

Start Weight: 164.8

11/9: 159.6 18.36bf%

11/16: 157.2  18.35bf%

Lost 2.4 lbs and met secondary goal by dropping 0.01% bf average for the week (hey it counts as a loss!!)

Question of the week:  Since I have the entire week off for Thanksgiving my goal is to ride at least two hundred miles on the bike as Thanksgiving is going to be double trouble as my fiance and I go to two dinners.  Since my big issue with food is in social situations I'm just expecting a trainwreck even though I'm trying to unlearn my bad habits by forcing myself to learn some healthy ones in social settings (putting knife/fork down between each bite, drinking water between each bite, etc  to help slow down the pace and hopefully fill up before gorging myself).

It looks as if, in general, people have had a great week.

After holding steady for two weeks, I have finally seen the numbers creep down a bit... wonderful after being incredibly relaxed about my eating last weekend.

My numbers:

New You in the New Year Challenge
Starting: 202.6 lbs / 114 cm Hips
Current: 194.8 lbs / 108.5 cm Hips
Delta-Week: 0.6 lbs / 0.5 cm Hips
Delta-Total: 7.8 lbs / 05.5 cm Hips

Ok, 'cause some of you asked nicely, here's the pumpkin cheesecake recipe along with my modifications...(there are a bunch of these online, including some that are easier, but my family liked this one last year)

6-8 oz Pecans (or favorite nut)
2 Tbs. Splenda
5 Tbs. Butter- melted (I used light butter w/ canola)
4 8oz packages cream cheese - room temp (I used 3 fat free, 1 reduced fat
1 cup Splenda (I didn't use this much, but I can't remember how much I took it down)
1/2 tsp. Cinnamon (I also doozied it up with nutmeg & cloves, but this'll work)
1/4 tsp. Ground Ginger
1 15 oz can Solid Pumpkin
3 Eggs (1 egg, 3 egg whites)
1 Tbs. Vanilla
non-stick cooking spray

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Crush nuts & 2Tbs Splenda in food processor until finely chopped. Add melted butter & process until moist.

Cut a circle out of parchment or wax paper to fit the bottom of your spring form pan (9x2 1/2"). Spray with non-stick cooking spray. Press the nut mixture onto the bottom of a spring form pan and 1 inch up the sides.. Bake 10 minutes or until golden. Cool. Use tin foil to wrap the bottom and the sides of the spring form pan in double thickness.

In a medium bowl. Beat cream cheese, Splenda, cinnamon & ginger until smooth. Add pumpkin, beat until well blended. Add eggs & vanilla, beat until smooth. Pour into crust. Set spring form pan into a roasting pan, fill it with hot water about an inch high.

Bake about 1 hour and 30 minutes or until top starts set & turns golden. Cool 15 minutes and run a knife around the sides to loosen the cake from the pan. Cool on wire rack to room temperature, cover and refrigerate 2 hours before serving.

For low-fat version:
use low-fat or fat-free cream cheese, no nuts, and 4 egg whites.

Nutritional contents: (without my modifications...I'm way closer to the low-fat numbers below)

Cal: 462
Fat: 43.7 g
Carbs: 8.2 g
Protein: 9 g

Low-fat version: (using fat-free Cream cheese, no nuts and egg whites.)
Cal: 130
Fat: 5.8 g
Carbs: 7.5 g
Protein: 11.8 g

This week down again to 195.5, but I have been up and down all week so I'm not feeling really solid with that number.
I am having Thanksgiving for the first time this year! My husband's folks will be here from Ireland, but otherwise we are keeping things small, around 15 people. (Normally it is 25+) I will be doing things the traditional way, but keep my portions small.
I've kept my secondary goal this week, too.
Have an awesome weekend!!!!

Chudley is down to....231 lbs!!!!

I am fighting back to my low weight of 229. I had a good week. My activity is low due to alot of school assignments being due and 3 exams. Good job this week everyone! Keep it up!

We had on our menu the regular kind of Thanksgiving "stuff"...even though I pushed away from the table early and took it easy on desert I still gained 5 pounds! I think it was due to the salty ham and lack of water intake.....BEWARE!!!! But remember that while we are committed to training and bettering our lives and those around us WE STILL HAVE TO LIVE!!! IF YOU GAIN SOME WEIGHT BIG DEAL! IT DOES NOT MAKE YOU A BAD PERSON. JUST A PERSON WHO IS A LITTLE HEAVIER!

See you on the scale next week!

I'm celebrating Thanksgiving with my husband's family... so I don't really know yet how I'll be contributing to the cooking. I like to have fresh veggies all cut up and ready to go, for Thanksgiving day (pre-turkey, so I can snack on that instead of cheese/crackers/chips) and really every day we're with family, since we like to play a lot of cards and games with snacks. I've been pretty good about making workouts, missing them has been less due to lack of motivation and more due to childcare issues, so I want to change my secondary goal to drinking 64 oz of water (at least!) per day. I've been starting the day with coffee, and then moving on to diet pepsi at lunch, and then I feel really sluggish in the afternoon.

I hope everyone enjoys the week and has safe travels with minimal delays!

I didn't WI this week, as i was traveling - I really need to kick this into gear, I just have been so unmotivated.

Thanksgiving will be at my house, there will be about 11 of us - everyone is bringing something which always makes it pretty easy.  I'm anxious to put my new kitchen to work!

I'm in charge of potatoes, I'm thinking about serving this recipie instead of mashed pototoes - it's really yummy and also healthy, not sure what people will think though

Lemon Roasted Potatoes (makes 8 servings)

  • 3 lbs paking potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tblspoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tblspoon dried oregano
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • fresh oregano sprigs (optional)

Preheat oven to 475.  Combine potatoes, water, lemon juice, oil, oregano, salt and pepper in a roasting pan.  bake, stirring once halfway through, until the potatoes are browned and tender, about 50 min.  Garnish with oregano sprigs (if using)

Per serving (about 1 cup)

  • 141 calories
  • 2 gm fat,
  • 0 gm saturated fat
  • 0 g trans fat
  • 0 mg Chol
  • 225 mg Sod
  • 29 g Carb
  • 2 g Fiber
  • 3 g protien
  • 11 mg Calc

WW points value = 3 pts

Up one pound from last week.  As far as Thanksgiving goes, I am expecting a fairly traditional meal.  I am going to some friends house.  They are doing all the cooking.  I just hope I can end up with one of the turkey legs.

Sounds uber-yummy to me, but it depends on how "traditional" your guests are...my hubby wouldn't stand for roasted potatoes instead of mashed, so I make mashed for him & just blow my bad-food-allowance on the stuffing!

This week - 255

Happy,happy!

I met my secondary goals of tracking my foods daily, which has now just become part of life as has working out.

I Am signed up for my first "event" which is a 5k on thanksgiving morning. My secondary goal this week is to run the entire 5k without walking. my training course is pretty hilly and this course is flat so I think I am ready, a little nervous but excited

For thanksgiving, I am going to smoke trukey breasts, have baked potatos instead of mashed, salsa instead of gravy, and go really easy on everything else, of course I have to have a slice of pumpkin pie.........
