Pre-race routine:

Woke up a little late and made oatmeal while running around trying to find my running capris (didn't find them). Wasted more time trying to get my HRM to work, but it was getting later and later, so I just said screw it and went for the door.
Event warmup:

Quick jog to packet pick up because I was running late.
Run
  • 43m 25s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 13m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

Started off towards the back per usual. Decided that I was just going to be a steady as possible, regardless of the fact that I was watching ALL the runners get further and further ahead. My goals for this race were to run a minimum of 2/3 of the entire distance, with an ultimate goal to run the entire time. Also, I wanted to make sure my attitude was better then at the Harvest Moon run (it was horrible that day). I didn't run the whole way (walked at water station, for 1 minute at 20 minute mark, 1 minute when my hip was talking at me), but I definately hit the goal of running at least 2/3 of the race. Almost the whole thing! Progress!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Just keep working on the running.
Post race
Warm down:

Went into beach pavilion to get my goody bag and some mini-bagels (mmm...cinnamon/sugar bagels). Ran into the couple that had been in front of me the entire run (I'd run with the lady during the trail part of the Harvest Moon run). Evidently, their goal was to beat me. Apparently my pace is pretty consistent (I thought that was a cool compliment), so, when they were walking, when I would get close or pass them, they would start running to get ahead. Interesting.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I was hoping this would be a PR, but I missed it by about a minute. However, my attitude was much improved over the last 5K I'd run here (Harvest Moon), and I actually did some consistent training.

Event comments:

The goody bag on this was amazingly good considering it was just a little 5K. The shirt is the UGLIEST color of poo (I don't get it...Kenosha Running Club has all their shirts printed on this hideous beige color, and the RecPlex had this ugly brown...is Kenosha county regaled to all the left over shirt colors no one else wants?)

Great job on the run.  For some reason, race directors all think we want fall colors--I've been getting brown or burnt umber lately.  Either that or all of the t-shirt manufacturers have conspired to push down the prices of ugly shirts.
