Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5 and planned on my normal pre race meal peanut butter and honey on whole wheat but alas no honey and the bread was way stale so it was peanut butter and jelly on stale bread. 2 cups of coffee a half a bottle of water, and a 45 min drive and I am there. it is cold and I am planning on being disappointed by missing my goal but at least if I do I will have some time off and will work on weight loss.
Event warmup:

None hell I am running 13.1 miles I'll warm up as I go.
Run
  • 2h 05m 59s
  • 13.59 miles
  • 09m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

After the last two weeks I was fully expecting the worse so I started way way back I did not use the HR strap but did use the garmin first 2 miles i ran on my own just getting the feel of the day pace 9:24 this was faster than I planned but I thought it is ok as I am sure I will walk the up hils. Next 3 miles pace 9:32 it was at this point a younger guy passed me and I jumped on his tail to draft. After following him a good way we started a big down hill and I took the breaks off top speed 9.8 mph then the up hill hit and I did not walk? Now I started a 7.4 mile period of the run I ment to hit lap each 2 or 3 miles but I was having fun passing people at this point confusion was setting in I was way ahead of pace and I felt great I had to hold my self back I was picking out targets ahead of me and tracking them down 1 person or groups I chased them i\I caught them and I moved on to the next all the while telling my self don't go to fast hold back. 7.4 miles 9:12 pace what is up with that? Ok the last 1.14 miles and it is mostly up hill Only three target ahead of me that I can see so it is of to the races and ipass all three but when i stop for water one passes me back but I know I can track him down and I do so ON THE UPHILL!! last .2 miles is down hill there is on lady ahead of me and she is running alone I do not want to pass her I think it would look poor of me to blow by her at the finish but the guy I passed back on the hill is challanging me so off I go I hit 10.4 mph and he backs off I slow and cross the finish line a few feet behind her.
What would you do differently?:

I guess I could have pushed harder?
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around amd meet some of the local ET Tri club folks and then welcome in a bunch of people I passed.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing

Event comments:

I fully expected to fail at my goal of 2:15 but not only did I make it but I beat it by 10 min on a 1/2 mile longer course Now I must continue the maratone training. I have no idea how I did so well after a rotten last 2 weeks of training. This is the first race i have entered that I have been in the top half of finishers!! 15 of 22 in age group is not bad as I have never raced this distance before I am happy with the race.

Great race man!  A very impressive showing!  Keep up the training and you'll be a mainstay in the top half of the field.

Congrats!
