Run
Comments: Ran the first mile in 6:30, probably too fast. I was in a crowd the first half mile or so passing lots of people, which prevented an even faster first mile. I didn't get the next splits, but the remainder of the run was at an average of 6:53 per mile. HR got to 180 during first mile, and stayed in mid to high 180s during much of the rest of the race. I felt like I was slowing down quite a bit the last mile, but HR stayed high. What would you do differently?: Start a bit slower. Also start near the front. Post race

Light running and stretching. I did this race last year in 26:30 or so. I knew I'd be a lot faster this year, but wasn't sure by how much. I was actually training much of the last three months for the half marathon but decided to change it to the 5k for a variety of reasons.
My official time shows about 15 seconds slower than my real time since it was a gun start, not a chip start. I didn't start all that close to the front since my 10 year old daughter was also running. Took me about 15 seconds to get to the start line.
