I went to a local tri store and tried wetsuits on (ones made specifically for tri) - I got a blue seventy, and full sleeved ,full leg - I get cold too easily....

and Donto at least this is a LAKE.  my sprint tris in June are ocean - up north!!!!

did not make it out of work on time to swim with master's tonight so am going to TRY to be at the 5:30AM swim....but that is SO dang EARLY! I am worried I will drown!

Donto,

I know what you are saying about other kinds of wet suits. I own a scuba diving wet suit already and I wouldn't even consider trying to use it for swimming in tri's. It will keep you warm but is very restrictive to movements especialy in the arms. In diving all the work is done with your legs and the big fins we wear and your arms stay down around your boyancy compensator most of the dive.

I'll most likely get a sleeveless suit as I don't get cold easily and I feel the extra ease of movement in the arms and shoulders is important. If I ever do a colder water race I can always add a jacket......

My weakness right now is the bike, believe it or not. So I am focusing on that for a bit. Trainer for distance and speed, and Weekend on the road for short trips, as I have no time to bike when I get home from work. I think this will work. Still need a computer though. Just don't have time during the week. - Maybe this weekend I'll pick one up in Orlando.

Hi everybody,

I'm looking at making this my first tri, just a little behind in training at this point. The "my first tri" sprint on Saturday seems like a good idea....I was planning on a sprint in April for my first time, but if I really train hard I think I could be ready in March. So that's my new goal. I have a ProMotion wetsuit (the sleeveless one) and will definitely be wearing it. Hope we can all meet up!

Laurie

Hi Laurie,

There are a lot of us doing the myfirst at the Wildman. We will definately see you there. Welcome and you still have time to get trained up for the race. Look at it as a completion thing, unless you are wanting to win your first time out. Nice to meet you!

Hey guys,

I am thinking about making the wildman my first tri as well.

What is the advantage of racing in the "first tri" class compared to the regular class?

I have been training for to make St. Anthony's my first race, but I needed to change that because I am taking my wife to a Bon Jovi Concert the night before the race. So I signed up for South Beach, but I think I need to race a sprint before the longer race...

I ordered my wetsuit and if it comes in on time I plan on joining the race... I hope to meet other BT's at the race.

the "my first" event has half the distance swim....400m vs 800m. there should be a large crew from BT there so it should be a good time, hope you can make it.

When you know where you are staying, let us know. Cat and I know where we are staying, so as we learn of more we can plan a place. Good luck in your training!

Welcome keone,

We (5-6 so far) are all doing the myfirst tri and are very excited. What brought you into tri-ing? I wanted to start getting into shape to set a good examplefor my kids as they get older. In 3 weeks we will become triathletes -

Just so you know, we are setting up a Friday meet-up dinner if you are interested and know where you are going to be staying. If you are interested, let us know where you will be, so we can plan a meetup.

GOOD LUCK on your training as well!

I've got some experience cycling and running, and am slowly working on my swimming. I have a few friends who have done triathlons.. I guess I just wanted to give myself another goal to work toward. Also, it's my birthday gift to myself (crazy, huh?).. I will be turning 25 two days after the race.

I live here in Orlando (east side) so I may be interested in meeting up since it will not be too far away.

you and I have a lot in common. I'm a runner/cycler that wanted to add another challenge as well. the swim has proved more challenging than I expected. also my birthday is 1 day after the event...I'll be turning 34.

hope to see you there

I clicked on the area hotels thing they had then went to hotels.com and found something in Kissimee - about a half an hour away....

even with disney there I am kind of not worried about traffic at 6AM.....

I don't think there are any hotels that are very close. Moss Park is on the southeast side of Orange County. Something near the Orlando airport would probably be OK. That is about 10 miles away from Moss Park. However, there isn't much to do in that area. If you are planning to get into town a few days early this might not be the best choice. Regardless of where you stay, there won't be any traffic on the drive to the race, and it probably won't be too bad on the way back either.

Wherever you all stay, make sure you have some $ for the tolls.  417 and 528 (west of 436 [airport]) are toll roads.  There are a some hotels near the airport, as lighthouse stated, and from 436 [airport] to Narcoossee Rd is toll free, for now!

I hope everyone has a great race.  I'm going to try and come up for the race and cheer everyone on but it  depends on a pending business trip that week.

I'm meeting up with Chris this Sunday for an OWS. If you can get over to Brevard County beachside by 8:30 am you're more than welcome to join us...

There are plenty of hotels on International Drive. Stay on the West End of I-Drive. There are some very nice time shares in that area. I believe people rent them out, and post them on some travel site on the web? I heard you can pick one up at a good price. I-Drive is about 30 minutes away, and it's pretty easy to get to the race.

I-Drive->Beach Line -> To John Young Parkway -> To 417/Greenway (toll)->Narcosse.

You can also stay at the Park resorts, such as Universals which is maybe 45 minutes away (Hard Rock Cafe, Protofino Bay, etc). I-4->Beach Line -> To John Young Parkway -> To 417/Greenway (toll)->Narcosse.

Disney is pretty easy too, Just have the front desk or Concierge for directions to 417/Greenway(toll), which should be pretty straight forward and is probably about 45 - 50 minutes from there to Moss Park. Disney->To 417/Greenway (toll)->Narcosse.

At 5-6am on a Saturday, there is not much traffic at that time in the morning.

It's not too exciting by the airport.
