Subject: New PR!!
Well, I have been whining about how much training I have been doing lately and how my recovery week was still going to be more work than I would like. I have run 19 out of the last 24 days and I thought I would be doing a lot more biking and swimming and less running. It turns out that I am still running the same distance (28 miles) just in less days. I didn't think that I would be able to fully recover, but today I had a great run! I haven't run since Monday and I was actually looking forward to getting outside. My run started out OK, just like any other day. I run downtown and I zig zag across the city until I get to the base of the 6th street hill. I run up the hill which takes me to mile 1.5. When I got almost all the way to the top of the hill I saw my daughter and her class playing in the park, I waved and kept going. There was another kid's father there and he started to run behind me. So I as I ran down 6th street I realized he was still behind me and didn't pass. That was motivation enough for me to keep that pace. At mile 2 he pulled off. At the 2.5 mile mark I looked at my watch and saw I had equalled my fastest run time to that point (26 something). I knew I had .8 miles to the next turn and just wanted to keep a good pace. At the turn, with 2.5 miles to go, I was there at 34 something. Now I have never been able to run and add at the same time and today was no different. Here is what I was thinking:
34 min + (2.5 miles @ 10 min/miles= 25 min) = 49 min,
a PR by like 7 minutes, that's when I should have had a clue, but noooo. So now I'm pumped because I always get to the 2.5 mile mark with a good time and fall apart after that. So I was determined not to fall apart today. I plugged along trying to keep a good form and not day dream too much, then with 1 mile left and all downhill remaining I looked at my my watch... 45 mins. I couldn't believe it. No way could I run a 4 min mile, then it dawned on me, 34+25= 59. So at this point I said I still feel good, so keep going. When I stopped my watch it read 54:07 for 5.85 miles. I was happy with the run but I didn't know it was a PR until I got back here and looked at my logs.
So I guess I should apologize to my coach for all the rotten things I was thinking about him. Now I have to rest up for swim tonight.
Thanks for letting me share
Tom
