Pre-race routine:

Got up early... it was cold... took a shower, had some toast and a banana. Stopped at Einsteins Bagels and grabbed some coffee. Registered. Walked to the finish to drop off my gym bag so that I would have warm clothes to change into after the race. Jogged back to the school... went potty. I could hear the PA announcer getting everyone ready to start. I raced to the start and got as close to the front as I could.

Comments:

I went out hard, but no as hard as last year. My first mile was 5:38 (6 seconds slower than last year)... Mile two surprised me because I ran it in 5:36 (last year I ran mile 2 in 6:15)... Mile 3 was good too... 5:52... and then I faded on mile 4 with a 6:06. Overall, I beat last years time by 31 seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Try to push harder on mile 4... I was somewhat disappointed with not getting under 6 minutes on the last mile.
Post race
Warm down:

Changed into dry, warm clothing... FREE BEER!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The cold... maybe. I ran well...

Event comments:

I'm really happy with my race... I also had a personal best in the 5K (unofficially): 17:38 (based on my first 3 miles plus the 32 seconds it took me to do the .1 in my last 5K in Oct...)

Awesome race!  I can't believe you finished 35th with that time.  There must have been a lot of fast runners there. 5,000 people is a big race.
