Comments:

So it has taken me a week to feel like writing this report, this was a most dissapointing marathon for me. It really was a pretty course, the leaves were changing, nice scenery. The second half was hillier than the first half, and I would definately not call it flat!
What would you do differently?:

I don't know what happened, I should have been able to do a 3:45, that was my goal, that's what I had trained for. I knew at mile 7 or so that it was not going to happen. My legs never felt good, it never felt easy. I had to stop and go to the bathroom at about mile two, and used alot of energy trying to catch back up with the 3:40 pace group.
Post race
Warm down:

There was no warm!
I grew up up north, so I know what cold weather is but HOLY CRAP!
I have never been so cold in my life. I went through the food tent and went to the family waiting area to wait for everyone. At one point I was so cold that I just went and sat in a Porta-Pottie for about 15 minutes.
Waiting for people is a bad idea, always have a backup plan.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Who knows. I would guess that 1. I screwed up my taper, I did a 10k 2 weeks before and pushed it to see where my fitness was.
2. It was cold, I never got warm during the race, my hands were freezing.
3. Mentally checked out as soon as I knew I was having a bad day, that's what bugs me the most.

I am sorry your race didn't go as well as planned.  You didn't give up and you finished the race - so you should be proud of that.  Everyone has a bad day occasionally.  You will do better next time.  Congratulations!!

Way to finish Nick!! I know how you feel. I felt the same way two years ago in Baltimore. What hurt me the most was that instead of slowing down, I just mentally lost it. I finished but if some one would have offered me a ride, I would have taken it. We all have bad races and good races, that's what keeps us coming back!!

Recover and get back out there!!
