It is now posted on the Blue Sky Sports site. I am disappointed that it looks like fewer races and mostly a spring schedule. I can only do one of them because my June HIM. John Tanner is it for me. I really enjoyed these races last year.

I might sign up for Tanner since it's drivable from Alpharetta.

I did Russell this year.  Nice low key race but too far away (out in the middle of nowhere).

Well that sucks.  Here is the update from the website....

A few changes for 2008.   Races will no longer take place at Fort Yargo State Park and High Falls State Park.  We have added an all female event (Indian Springs) and have made a couple of other changes to existing events. The series will consist of five races which will be triathlons as well as duathlons at Mistletoe and RB Russell and both events taking place at Indian Springs, as well as an aquathlon at RB Russell. Finally, we have decided to change the run distance at RB Russell to 4 miles for the triathlon and 2 miles and 4 miles for the two legs of the duathlon.
Eligibility for series rankings will now require triathletes to complete 3 races and duathletes  to complete 2 races.  We look forward to seeing everyone in the new race season

Yeah, that's disappointing - High Falls was definitely on the schedule. Oh, well. I had the impression these races generally sold out so I wonder if getting permits became a problem.

Still planning on racing Indian Springs - love those hills.

Very disappointing. High Falls was one of the best races in the series. I can see Yargo going away. It's non traditional format was probably more hassle than it was worth. Sad, cause when it was a normal format, it was my first Triathlon ever.

With this move, one has to wonder if this series is winding down. Hopefully, that's not the case, and they are using 08 as a re-tooling year.

On a positive note, it seems that GA Multisports is getting bigger and better every year.

Just glanced at the schedule and share the sentiments already noted...Tanner and Indian Springs might be it for me...and it might be that due to what's bolded in red above (eg. competition), that Blue Sky IS indeed winding down or (hopefully) retooling...

So, I had not considered this..The drought has now officially hit home.

We were at Sweetwater Creek St. Park a couple of weeks ago..That lake is basically gone.

I know Blue Sky was having some sponsorship issues last year....could be because of the drought also. Tri's around these parts are going to be very interesting if it doesn't rain this winter.

I love to race, not train. Looks like it will be harder to race with less local events. If the Sprints and Oly races are few and far between in GA, the travel factor kicks in and makes it hard with the "balance" thing. I know I can't leave home for a weekend ever time I want to race.

I am not sure I would do the advanced sign up for Emerald Point race. There may be no lake to race in!

This does suck since their last race is July 25th and limits choices (locally) in the later months of the season. I can totally understand why they decided not to do the Ft. Yargo race again, I didn't hear any athletes say they like the crazy format. It's a bummer though because it's really close to me and a no-brainer as far as volunteering.

Maybe GA Multisports is too much competition, they do an awesome job of putting on races. (even if they are expensive, I paid as much for as sprint as I did for an oly!

Forgot to add: I emailed the RD of Set Up Events in East Tennessee to ask about their '08 schedule. They put on the Atomic Man race. I'll post it when I get a response. They do a good job too but alot of their races are pool swims.

Speaking of Set-Up Events, they do put on a good race.  I don't know the extent of their schedule for 2008 off the top of my head, but they  host races in TN, SC, NC & VA.  Several of the SC races are within driving distance on race day...if you don't mind driving 2 hrs.  We did the Clemson Sprint last year, it was a good race, fast and well organized.  We left around 4 the morning of and had plenty of time.  It's not optimal, but if the choices in North GA become limited, it might be what people have to do.  Besides Clemson, I know they have several other races that are about a 2 hr drive(around Greenville, SC).

Also, Team Magic, based in Birmingham does an outstanding job.  They have lots of races in the Birmingham and Nashville areas and that's a pretty quick drive...especially considering you gain an hour on the way there.  Any bit helps at  before the crack of dawn on race day!!!

(I no way am I encouraging people to stray from the great races we have around Atlanta, I LOVE GA Multisports races(haven't done a TTP, but hear good things), but we all know that no rain means trouble for our favorite races.)

Just thought I would add that with this development, every one of us will have to rethink when we sign up for races. Tri Peachtree City has moved back to August 23rd.. right when High Falls used to be. Tri PTC was already an early sell out race and very popular. This will double the pressure on that race and probably lead to an very early sell out. Same goes for Emerald Point.  (there is no two bridges tri in 08)

I guess my point is that there are new dynamics in play here and with demand rising, getting into a race will require intelligent planning and definitely advanced registration for some of these.

Alright, my brain isn't working properly today. What I meant to say was I emailed Race Day Events, Inc., not Set Up Events. Duh! Their SC series schedule is already posted. Yeah, I'm an idiot.

You're right Ron about being smart about registering early, too. We are fortunate that races don't sell out in matter of hours, days or weeks after registraion opens but as the number of races get smaller......it might be something we have to take in to consideration.

I think everyone should join my "club" and just not do local tris - too convenient! I only have one GA tri on my calendar for next season and it's only tentative (my other option is out of state again).

I will second Setup & Team Magic.  Nearly every race I have done was by one of them and they do a great job.  I have actually only done 1.3 races in Georgia...High Falls and the swim on Emerald Pointe

Hi Everyone,
Chuck here from Blue Sky Sports. Just wanted to let everyone know what's going on with the Tri the Parks for 2008. When we initially started our series seven years ago we had five races in the series and over the years have tried seven races and six races in a season. After a lot of soul searching this off season we made the decision to go back to our original five races. None of us produce races full time and as the years go by and families grow, demands of work change, etc., it becomes very challenging to keep up with such a full schedule of events. Producing the triathlons and duathlons is truly a labor of love for each of us (which we hope shows by the way we go about doing things) and if we could give up our day jobs and produce races full time we would jump in head first. But to do so would require 2-3 times the number of races we currently produce and as I said we love producing the races, but too much of a good thing is not such a good thing if you know what I mean.
We have been very blessed to have the many sponsors that we have and we think we have the best support that you could possibly want, so we hope that no one thinks that cutting back our schedule by one race has anything to do with the level of support we have, as we have the best. Nor is this a "retooling" year specifically or maybe it is as we retool after each and every race by acting on feedback from our participants, sponsors, and community, as our goal is to incorporate lessons learned from event to event in a quest to produce the best races that we possibly can.
Neither of the races that were dropped for the 2008 season were done so for lake water levels. We keep in constant contact with the park managers of our race locations to keep up to date on the lake water levels and are fortunate in that for the most part the lakes that we use for our races are still at levels conducive for conducting the swim portion of the events.
In deciding which races to leave off the schedule we had to take a hard look at all of our events. At the same time we have had lots of feedback and requests to produce an all female race. So to get to a schedule of five events, we needed to subtract two and add one. The two races that we have had challenges with course design were Fort Yargo and High Falls due to their unique layouts. Also these are the two parks that have had the highest vehicular traffic growth over the years and have challenged us on the bike course layout specifically.
So, in the end we dropped Fort Yargo and High Falls for 2008 (not to say that at some future year we might not add them back if conditions allow), added the all female event and ended up with five races on the calendar.
Also, we have tried to maintain the ability to offer choices at our events and have incorporated duathlons at our races. 2008 will be no different as we will offer three duathlons and a first for us will be the addition of an aquathlon at the Richard B. Russell location.
We also like the fact that we offer a series as one of our goals is to create a sense of multi-sport community at our events and to wrap up each season with a party and awards ceremony to reflect on the season and get everyone together for a time of fun, fellowship, and recognition.
Our last race takes place at the end of July now instead of mid August so our season is shortened by a couple of weeks which for selfish reasons means we might be able to take a family vacation in the summer for the first time in years, hooray!
Sorry for the lengthy note, but wanted for everyone to have the inside story. We will be sending out an email to everyone in our database with pretty much the same version as this note to get the word out.
We are very excited to see the growth in the sport over the past decade and hope to continue to support its growth in the next decade with the best races that we can possibly produce.
If you have participated in any Tri the Parks events, we are very gracious to have the opportunity to be a part of your Saturday mornings at the parks, and if you have not given us a tri we look forward to the opportunity of seeing you at the races in 2008!

Respectfully,

Chuck

Thanks for the reply. It helps to know a little bit of the inside story. Beats speculation any day. TTP is a great series. Thanks for staying with it. Us triathletes would be at a loss if it were to go away. I'm glad that's not the case. High Falls was a bit of a suprise though. Thanks for Keeping Indian Springs. Seems like you could put on two per year there (sprint and Oly) and fill them both up. Anyway.. thanks again.

x2...really appreciate what you, Kristen (hope I spelled correctly), your families, and volunteers at each race do on behalf of the multisport community...TTP *is* a great series and it's great to know it's as viable as ever.

Interesting post. I feel like I went back in time as a read it. I started the GA Cross Series 7 years ago. I gave it up to others after much unrest at home. I know your pain. I am impressed with the fact that the races were not produced by a full time pro group. They are great productions.

Thank you for all your efforts.
