Subject: creative ideas for medals?

What do you guys do with your medals?  Does anyone have any creative solutions for organizing and saving them?

I'd love to affix mine to pages in an album/book, but I have no idea if there is a practical way to do that.  Anyone done something like this and care to share details.

I do the same thing as JeepFleeb.  Only it's in my bedroom.  Everyday I wake up my race numbers and medals are right there.  It's the first and last thing I see everyday.

Donate them to kids, give them to the first person that finished after the cut off time, hang them on a peg on the wall, if you have trophies hang them on the trophies.

Good timing on this question... we make ours into christmas tree ornaments!

we're also wallpapering a wall in the trainer/treadmill room with our race numbers.

I got this off ST a while ago. I kept it on my HD as I always thought it looked really nice. Sorry, can't give credit for it though...I just saved the pic.

People get medals at triathlons? Next thing you're going to tell me is that people actually win these things, which is just crazy talk.

Two options (would post pics but I'm away from home having just bagged another medal )

Hang medal next to thin-framed race pic (in sequence, or each staggered slightly down from the next ... or in a diamond pattern, or V, whatever you have wall space for).

(Need 5x7 pics for this) drape medal ribbon AROUND framed pic so it hangs under pic.

Does anyone have a solution for storing a fair number of medals (40ish)? i have kept mine (not all Tri's) but right now they are just on a peg. A few years ago the Inlaws built a nice shelf for me in my garage for the trophies (came home, drove into the garage and saw my trophies). It would be nice to eventually place the medals with the trophies, nut I think the shadow box thing would just take up too much space.

I was just thinking about the original question - how to put medals into a book of some sort.  Maybe a CD storage book would do the trick?  I'd think regular album pages wouldn't be heavy-duty enough.  The link below is of a page where you could affix the medal on the bottom (where the CD would go), and then put a picture or something else about the race along the top.  Then you could either stick everything in an album or file them in a wooden cube of some sort.

Presently I have a area where I display them, however mine are only for finishing.  I have a couple of running awards were I earned them, errr..... make that 1-2 and in both cases it was a very small race where not many people showed up.  So when I came through the line at my blistering 26:30 pace (5K) I was able to take 3rd place.

The other race I got an award at it was given to me in error, they gave me 4th place, but I came in 14th.  I attempted to contact the RD to get the award to the right person, but I have never heard from them.  I don't even keep that one in the same area, since I know I didn't earn it.

The finisher medals I like to display, but after I get a few more only the nice ones will stay out.  Air force half marathon, River Corridor Classic Half Marathon something that I am proud of my accomplishment and the medal looks great as well.

I have one medal as a finisher medal, I'll keep but I will not display a lot.  It was my first Tri, that one actually means something to me.  Most of the rest, are nice but don't mean anything past 6 months after the race.

Wow Aaron. I'm guessing you had to add on a wing to the house to store all your race shirts too !!

I would think an art supply store might work, high end. They helped me when I needed an oversized album for 10x13 pics. I think I went to Charrette localy. They might be able to give some suggestions. Also try places like Michaels art supply/ scrap book suply type stuff.

Hmmm, you're right Joe, it would be a good idea to just go down and chat with an art supply store.

Danielle, I love your ornament idea, I'll bet you have a lot of memories on your tree that way.   The CD case is definitely a thought.  I might look around and check some out.

Aaron, you are just out of control!  That' awesome!

Great ideas all around... Nice shadow boxes.

Keep the ideas and photos coming.  In part, I asked the question to get ideas, but it's also just fun to see what people are doing.

Yeah my inlaws are pretty cool. Must be something about marrying the dad's only daughter. This is what I came home to!

I have most of my bibs and race caps in a large poster frame.  I also have a small shadow box with some medals and bibs and then a shelf with trophies.

I love this idea, but it's expensive at $265 for a windbreaker.
