Subject: Needing motivation for last push
Hi,

I'm needing motivation tonight. I've been training on and off for a little over 2 months now for my first tri. It's coming up July 26th. So I have about 10 more days to go. I talked to one of the men that I swim with in the AM and he encouraged me not to do any peaking or tapering prior to this race. He's done many Tri's before and says that I need to boost my biking training before the race and that my running and swimming are fine.

I've been swimming about 2000 meters 2x a week without a real problem. I'm up to running about 3 miles 2-3 times a week. I think my highest run has actually been 2.6 miles...but I am confident I can get to the 3 mile mark before the 26th...but my biking has peaked at 10 miles.

Any thoughts...motivational comments or just pushes to keep me going. I'd almost talked myself out of doing this tri at all until this evening at church. One of the ladies that I'm doing this with asked me about my training this evening. I've taken a few days off...I'd fallen down some stairs and then contracted pink-eye...obviously non-related events, but as a result I've not trained since last Friday. So I've missed about 5 days in the last week. But I'm ready to go again, I think.

Anyway....started thinking about what to wear and such for my first tri....and I've got to figure that out...any thoughts on any of this would be more than welcome.

i guess since u had a week off (unfortunately), then continue training as before up to the tri.  listen to your body...keep a good bead on that knee when it comes to pusing yourself - torn acl right?

your gonna be gold for the 26th.  u r just about at your mileage and your only behind on the bike...the easy part.  relax and have fun!

(eliz has a training log with bt under 'betty' at http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/tricrew_triathlete_training_log.htm)

Thanks Ron...and I will definitely watch it with my knee.Actually it was a torn LCL (skiing accident) so it isn't too terribly affected by the running and such thankfully. I will keep on training as I am up to the Tri...as you and Mike have suggested. Thanks again for the note.

Concerning what to wear, I would suggest what ever you feel comfortable in. This is your first tri and what ever you decide to race in shouldn't be a distraction to you. Don't wear a swim suit or tri suit that you haven't trained in. You don't want to find out race day that your tri suit or whatever you wear starts creeping up or is uncomfortable.

Relax and focus on finishing. You have trained and even with the week off, you are still close to where you want to be. Remember Phil 4:13

Can't wait to hear that first race report!

No need to worry you will do great! As far as motivation just think of how sweet it will be to cross the finish line and see how your hard work has paid off. Tri's are not easy because if they were easy then everyone would be doing them. You now have bragging rights to people who are far less active. Definately remember Phil. 4:13. He will give you strength dont ever doubt that! Good luck you will be great!

Michael,

Thank you for the wonderful support and motivation. I will try my best to relax and focus on finishing. You are right I am close to where I need to be. I'm certainly not where I was 2 months ago, huh?

Thank you also for the tips on what to wear as far as the Tri goes...that makes sense and I will definitely try to train in the suit that I am going to wear for the Tri. Good idea!!

Freddy,

Good idea! And WONDERFUL Point...focusing on how awesome it will be to cross the finish line is an excellent idea!! And also a good point about the reason that Tri's aren't easy. I've never been one to tackle anything that was easy though...after all why do something that everyone else could easily do, ya know? So it makes sense that it will be hard...but SO worth it when I cross that finish line!!!

Both Freddy and Michael, I will definitely remember Phil 4:13...would you believe that I actually begin to recite that to myself sometimes when I'm out running or pushing extra hard to go that last little bit...it helps. And you are right...he can give me the strength to do anything!!

Lastly, thank you all 3 of you. You've definitely given me the motivation I need to make it through this to the race...and to the finish line. I can hardly wait to tell you all about it when I finish!
