Overcast
Total Time = 1h 45m 25s
Overall Rank = 159/237
Age Group = Clyde
Age Group Rank = 16/30
Pre-race routine:

Pose with pink Crocs before a new winner could be selected!
Event warmup:

Standing around in the cold for about an hour before my turn to struggle with the swim laps.
Swim
  • 10m 49s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 42s / 100 meters
Comments:

Single file start sucked for me as I spent more time wondering if I was holding someone up, and less time practicing the drills I had been working on.
What would you do differently?:

Will need to learn to swim one day.
Transition 1
  • 02m 44s
Comments:

Not too bad of a transition considering how far it was from the pool.
What would you do differently?:

Run a little faster
Bike
  • 51m 25s
  • 15 miles
  • 17.50 mile/hr
Comments:

Spent a little too much time waiting on turns as there was a mountain bike in front of me on every turn it seemed and they were not in a hurry.
What would you do differently?:

A faster swim time would have kept most of the mountain bikes out of my way in the first lap and may have allowed a little more time to handel issues later.
Transition 2
  • 02m 17s
Comments:

The girls were racking on my side when I returned and some boyfreind of an actual athlete had moved my gear and stuck her bike on my rack. He was still there when I returned and replaced my gear, shoved her bike out of my way, and re-racked, but who needs that confrontation in the middle of a race?
What would you do differently?:

All leads back to the slow swim time that put me in the back of a rather long line and late to start the bike.
Run
  • 38m 13s
  • 3.6 miles
  • 10m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

Missed the turn that pointed me back to the finish line at start of race as I did not think that we would run towards the finish line after just starting. Talked to the cop across the street at the bike loop and was told that there was a tunnel by the finish and that was the way to go. Got turned around and back on course, all turned out ok eventually.
What would you do differently?:

Hmmm, know the course better?
Post race
Warm down:

Little walking and eating then lots of cheering on the ladies.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Decided that i was taking December off starting at thanksgiving and gained 8 lbs pre race. Extra weight never helps. :)

Event comments:

I am just not a fan of single file race starts. Lots of waiting around and little I could do about it.

Nice job Jerry!!!  I hear you on being at the back of the pack.  Last year this was my 4th triathlon, I think, and I seeded myself with the 12 min ladies way in the back.  I ended up swimming faster than that, but all that waiting around killed me, I fumbled through people in the pool, and then when I got out on the bike, I was with all the riff raff.  So this year I was happy to be starting with the 8min ladies, and being up in the pack really helped!!!  No next time, even if a few people are going to pass you....start a little further up than you think and being around better people will push you!!!  (Sorry....my advice got long winded there).  You still did awesome AND had fun. That's what it's all about!

Great race (even if you forgot the dress )! Now you have to get in on the fun with the Crocs!

Thanks man, well if we get some participation, maybe we can wear skirts in the skirtchaser 5k! Nice job, it was great having you out there and being able to witness the pink croc passing ceremony. Nice work! So did you have any other issues with the guy moving your stuff? He's got to know, you don't F with the ESCKTC!
