...Chafing. It's a constant issue for me in anything other than swimming. So, advice please. On underwear selection, chamois butters/waxes, whatever. Anything to stop the chafing!!!

Compression shorts under running shorts= no problems even with out body glide on the run.  If you are chafing on the bike t may be that the shorts are too big.  Oh yea get the flat seams kind.

Chamois Butt'r...use this is your "shorts" areas since it is 66% cheaper than Body Glide and works just the same.

Compression shorts and vaseline in the sensative areas work for me. I tried body glide at my last race and was totally chaffed by the end.

Bike: Chamois butt'r for training, body glide during races (won't wash off in the water).
Run: Body glide or tight clothes with flat seams.

I use both body glide which feel sticky to me and also Monitat's Anti-Chaffing Gel...I love that stuff but it is expensive.

For training on the bike I use Chamois Butter. When I am training for the run I use body glide. For race day its all body glide. Cost isn't an issue for a race, but the Chamois Butter works great and is cheaper (which is why I use it for training rides), but I really think body glide is better. Everything listed here works for these people, try em all and find the one that works. Chafing suck, and depending where it is, it can kill a race/workout. Hope you find relief.

Well, some idiot's always got to be the voice of dissent.

BodyGlide works okay for me and will do in a pinch. Since I switched to SportShield, however, I have had NO chafing issues swim (wetsuit) bike or run, NO blisters at the end of a marathon (lasts longer than BG for me), and I have still not used up a roll-on bottle in two years.

Bike shorts: men's cut works better for me. Run shorts: lightweight with a liner. Compression shorts/tights, no matter how smooth/flat/small/etc. the seam was, it would literally slice me open.

Just some different experience. Lots of great suggestions here; try a few and see what works best for you! Good luck, chafing sucks!!!

Here's something that nobody's suggested yet, and it works great for me.... shaving. Keep the area completely hairless, and you can really cut down on the chafing. Hair allows clothing to slide around a lot, and that rubbing is what hurts. Without hair things tend to stay in place better. Just don't cut yourself shaving!

Balmex clear ointment (sold in the baby aisle) works for me. It's basically the same stuff as Body Glide, but loads cheaper and easier to apply (squeeze tube vs. stick)

First time I got monkey butt I used balmex to clear it up. Worked like a charm. Then I started using it as a preventative on long rides. Haven't had a problem since.

am i really the first to suggest bag balm?  cheap and effective.  i find it stays on better in the water than body glide, a must for longer races and works well.    of course, assos chamois cream is a luxury and what i use if i am having some issues from loads of saddle time. and when i forget anything at all (ouch)

if you are wearing undies under the bike shorts - don't.  Bag balm is indeed awesome, but a little sticky.  Personally, I prefer tri shorts for all my rides, because less padding and less moisture = less chafing.

For running I just always use shorts that have an inner liner.  I also love the skirts with compression shorts underneath - they are actually very practical and tend to have nice pockets.

Couple things:
-Body glide or Chamois butter etc....
-Good fitting clothes made from quality material($20 bike shorts does not work)and no undies..
-Get rid of all the hair.
Good Luck

Training I don't use anything as I usually don't have any issues.

Racing I use Body Glide at the neck line for my wetsuit and since there is more wetness from the swim and a little more "movement" .... down ..... there ...... I'll also use some in the tri shorts on longer races (HIM and up).

In other words ..... don't ask to borrow my Body Glide!!!
