Age Group Rank = 2/
Pre-race routine:

Had some coffee and a chocolate bagel... took a shower to try and wash off my hang-over... yep... had a bit too much to drink last night. OOPS. Drove down the rez with Sergeant Vik.

Event warmup:

Got to the race, registered and jogged a bit with Ramone and my buddy from my Hood to Coast Relay team, Justin(a 2:40 marathoner). Decided to take the the sweat pants off and run in my shorts, switched from the light weight running gloves to ski gloves... Put on my Yak Trax and was happy to have them because the entire course was snow covered or ice, or snow packed. There was absolutely no visible pavement... So much for any thought of a PB today.

Comments:

I was pleased with my run... I really wanted to beat Justin and I did... I could hear him behind me for the last 3 miles... his loud breathing would get close, then I would surge... then it would get close... then I would surge.

I don't think I ever beat Justin in a race before... As I said above this guy is fast having run a 2:40 mary and a 2:48 Boston Marathon last year!

Granted, I did have Yak Trax, he did not... but just in like triathlon... preparation counts, and equipment counts...
What would you do differently?:

Not much, I ran about as hard as I could... there was a moment between 3 and 4 were I caught the guy who finished ahead of me and we started pushing the pace... It was too early to do that and it may have caused me a little bit of time...
Post race
Warm down:

Hung out with everyone... ate some cookies... got my second place award... A fancy beer glass! wow!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the snow and the ice and the hills

Event comments:

This turned out to be a great race. I thought the cold would have deterred many people, but based on the large field, I don't think it did.

The sunshine was out and made this bearable.

I had fun today...

Good job DD!!  No Chambourd next time, ya?  Of course, w/o it you may have had feeling in your legs and noticed it was cold enough for pants

Definitely another signature race for you with the "Take No Prisoners" approach to the competition

Can't believe that your out slogging through a Sub-40 10k in YakTrax

Any chance they can sponsor you?
