Pre-race routine:

Well my little brother's 21st was at my parents place the night before. So I staved off Alcohol in favour of Maison - Which is sparkling grape juice. BLOODY BRILLIANT idea. Checked out early at 11pm so I could actually get some sleep.

Woke up at 4:30. Had weet-bix and Milk and half a slice of vegemite on toast. Sunscreened up and drove the 5mins from my parent's house to the race start. Got to the event and Evie had already put all her gear in transition and I was next.

Ran into Mr Shield who my family went to church with when we were younger. He let me know that his sons (who I was good friends with in primary and high school) were marshalling. Mr Sheild also told me he was the chief timekeeper at the end of the race so that was pretty cool. ^_^ I got numbered by David and said hi to peter before going into the transition area.

Found an "okay" spot. Racked my bike, and as I got set up other people racked their bike the rack started to BOW... then it started to collapse! I ran and got two marshalls and a tech offical to inspect it - as I'm sure they didn't want to pay for the damages to our bikes.

I learnt my lesson from the last race and scooted across the road to the public toilets at the cleveland library. No way in hell was I using the portaloos ever again!!! No queues and the toilets were CLEAN! and there was SOAP... and HAND DRYERS...

got back accross the road and the portaloo queue looked like it was stretching back to transition!
Event warmup:

Ate a banana while watching Evie THROUGHRALLY KICK ARSE in the swim leg. She was a good 10m in front of all the other girls as she came out of the water and over took the boys in the heat in front of her as well. While she may not be a future tri champion (she finished 8th) she's definatley a future swim champion!

Anyway once she was in transition I lined up with the rest of the ladies in my category. I hung towards the back near the run leg for the kids though and got to see Evie on the run. I screamed for her and she waved. She was DEFINATLEY having fun!! Then we lined up.

Comments:

I felt good on the swim today. Nice and relaxed. I swam wide at the start and managed to stay with the pack and out of the frenzy of the start. While Navigating I noticed that one of the boats in the marina had a whole stack of people on it, drinking and watching the action in the water. I thought that was pretty funny.

Rounded the first buoy and almost missed the second completely. I got the whistles.

Someone kicked me in the head. Karma I guess. I kicked someone in the last race.

Pretty average swim for me considering it usually takes 1min to do 50m - This sounds about right
What would you do differently?:

Navigate a bit better - look for the second buoy.

Comments:

DAMN IT I had this all typed out and it took me all afternoon and then it WIPES IT! ;_; I think I'm going to cry!

Anyway. I scraped my knee coming out of the water and didn't notice the blood until after the race!
Saw my Fiance and said "THAT WAS BLOODY GREAT!"
Overtook women on the run in.
Saw my friend sarah who was a techinal offical. She cheered me on.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. That was great

Comments:

Okay. Got up to that magic number: 40kph.
There were lots of people on the course. I spent more time telling people to move than I do during a group ride.
Had a great rivalry going with white shirt girl in my age group
Told my fiance that I loved him at the beginning of the second lap.
White shirt girl and I kept overtaking each other - but noone overtook us.
I won the battle leading back into transition
What would you do differently?:

Corner better so I only have to pass white shirt girl once next time!
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

My fiance said there were only 5 or so girls ahead! WOOHOO!
Saw sarah, she cheered!
Girl in transition spot nect to me took up my slot with her bike so I yelled out to her to move it as I was running up.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Run
  • 14m 33s
  • 3 kms
  • 04m 51s  min/km
Comments:

Got overtaken by white shirt girl fairly quickly.
Stride length was vastly different to Bribie...
Created a new rivalry with 2xu girl! LOL She'd sprint past then get a stictch and I'd overtake her again. I kept my speed consistant. She'd suddenly sprint past like a bat outta hell but I'd wear her down again.
On the final stretch I accelerated and blasted past to finish - TENTH. LOL She congratulated me
What would you do differently?:

Bring up my speed a bit better
Post race
Warm down:

Breakfast. Patch up for my knee in first aid tent and a HOSE DOWN.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat - Going offcourse on the swim cornering

Event comments:

I loved it! Achieved TWO goals and smashed my previous time at this distance by OVER TEN MINUTES! WOOHOO!
