Sunny
Total Time = 3h 06m 57s
Overall Rank = 66/611
Age Group = M 30-34
Age Group Rank = 11/69
Pre-race routine:

Up at about 4:45am. Had some toast and a couple of bananas. Out the door and at transition by 5:30am.
Event warmup:

Short 10 minute jog and 5 minute swim.
Swim
  • 30m 38s
  • 1800 meters
  • 01m 42s / 100 meters
Comments:

I got battered in the first 3-400m. Much worse than last year. Apart from that it went well.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 01m 15s
Bike
  • 1h 39m 38s
  • 55 kms
  • 33.12 km/hr
Comments:

I am much stronger in the bike this year and was surprised I didn't hit my target of 1:35. and was only 1 minute faster than last year This could have been because part the course had been changed and there was some strong headwinds which I'm not that good at going into. I was careful not to push too hard and save myself for the run.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more into headwinds!!
Transition 2
  • 01m 19s
Run
  • 54m 9s
  • 12 kms
  • 04m 31s  min/km
Comments:

I hadn't run at all for 5 weeks before this race because of achilles tendonitis and didn't want to have it flare up before the race. So I am pleased with my time which was over 5 minutes faster than last year. I still feel I can't run to my potential in a triathlon. Running is by far my strongest discipline and yet when you look at the rankings it's the worst of the 3!
What would you do differently?:

Not get injured before the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Massage

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My achilles tendonitis and lack of run fitness

Event comments:

I had a goal of sub 3 hours (32 swim 1:35 bike 50 Run 3min transitions) Though I think that went out the door with my injury. I am happy with my performance and a 9 minute improvement over last year.
Looks like I'll have to wait until next year to go sub 3 hours. :)

WOw.. A triathlon in Thailand!  I heard Phuket is beautiful.  I bet the swim is worth everything.

Nice job out there in the heat, and congrats on such improvement!

Thanks everyone!

I didn't get a picture with Chrissie or Faris, though I had a quick chat with Chrissie who's a really nice, down to earth lady.
