Swim
Comments: I haven't swam in about 3 months, so this was painful. I went very slowly and tried to just minimize my silhouette in the water. What would you do differently?: Swim. I have eschewed the swimming lately for the bike and run so I could burn more calories. That will be changing in the future. Transition 1
Comments: Debated wearing the socks. I don't usually in a race but I have been in training so I figured I should go with that. Grabbed another shot and away we go. What would you do differently?: Different shirt and a few extras as we will learn later. Bike
Comments: I've been riding the spin bikes for the last two months and they don't have odometers so I went for one of the cheesy ones out on the floor. No clips for bike shoes, no real great controls and the whole thing just felt wrong. A mile in I jumped off and went over to the recumbent bikes. Same setup but it felt a bit more comfortable. Then I reset the damn thing after a mile, so I had to start again. Fortunately I knew my distance when I did that. What would you do differently?: Do the spin bike and assume an amount of time in place of the distance. Hated not being able to wear my bike shoes. Transition 2
Comments: Jumped off and refilled my water bottle, then over to the treadmill What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I haven't run more than 2.25 miles so this was going to be fun. Started up w/ 5 minute walk and doing the math in my head about paces and times. I decided on my standard jog/walk split and got to it. HR spiked and I wasn't grooving my pace for most of the time but I was trying to soldier through it. Kept increasing my jog pace while backing off the time which basically washed it out. 30 minutes in I realized what I had forgotten to bring/do: band aids for the nipples and a wicking top rather than my standard cotton t-shirt. My right nipple was opened up and killing like a nasty paper cut. I was basically holding my right man-boob the last 15 minutes and I figure that got a few good looks, but it helped a little. Finished up at a pretty good pace and headed for the showers. What would you do differently?: Technical top and band-aids. Other than that I did well w/ what I had. Post race
Warm down: Stretched out my legs and grabbed some water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training. Event comments: It was just me, doing my thing. I liked it. Last updated: 2007-12-22 12:00 AM

Woke up and geared up. Got a Clif gel and man did it taste awful. Headed to the gym and got my transition locker all set up. This race allowed Ipods! Helps that I was the "race director" and that there were no USAT rules in effect.
Light stretching poolside.
