Subject: Logging trainer miles - using Bike Trainer section
Just got a new trainer and while searching old threads about posting trainer time/miles I saw someone mentioned there's a section in the sports area where you can add bike trainer time. Haven't seen hardly anyone using it.

I guess most people are just logging trainer time/miles under biking ?

Just curious what the experienced people are doing..... want to be on the same playing field... I know, it doesn't really matter ......unless you're a competition junkie....

I log the miles in the biking section.  But I made a request of  the BT Guru's to maybe figure out a way to put a checkbox in the bike section so that you will have two bike tally's...one of trainer miles/time and one of outside miles time.  I think that would be AWESOME.  Because if you log it as a sport you would have to go back to every one of those days and add up the miles if you wanted to compare your outdoor/indoor stats.

Anyway, you probably didn't care about most of that.  I log it in the bike section.

I just log the time on the trainer, not the miles.

I log the trainer time and miles in the bike section, but not the mph since that seems to vary too much compared to my road riding pace.  I use road riding pace over time to gauge my progress. Fortunately I get to ride outdoors pretty much year round here in S. Texas.

I log the training rides under the bike and track the time, distance and avg mph.  I also make a note that it was on the trainer.  This time of year most of my bike time is on the trainer due to lack of daylight and weather.  Although the avg. mph and the distance traveled may not correlate to actual road riding I can compare them to similar trainer workouts to judge improvements or lack there of.

But, like most of the tools on this site, these are for you to use how you think they will help you the most, so you need to decide how to use them.

I am not sure about anyone else but my computrainer mph is slower than my outside pace. I am guessing that the down hills are not as quick... but my over all mph is always slower inside.

But getting back to the OP I post it under bike with all the info I would on a outside ride and note that it is a trainer ride

Like some of the others - I post it under the bike section, but note that it's a trainer ride...

same here--log in bike but note as trainer.  I'm also a rebel--I put my spin class time in as well. I figure a 90 min class with an avg hr of 150 has got to be as benefical if not more than social rides at 15-17 mph on an easy course.

I log my time under the bike section. I use my HR to detremine avg speed. I know what speed I avg on the road at various HR's so I just estimate it that way. An AHR of < 140 gets a 18 mph avg, > 160 I'll give myself 20 mph. Is it real, no but it works for me.

I'm on my bike, it's bike time.  I log time/distance/speed as if I'm on the road.  As long as I'm on the hardest resistance my speed/distance is very close to what I do on the road.

Trainer is just logged as time.  My equipment isn't special enough to tell otherwise.

I do pretty much the same. I basically only ride my trainer right now, and log it as if I was outside. I know its on the trainer, and typically make a quick note.

I'm on my bike, it's bike time.  I log time/distance/speed as if I'm on the road.

Same with me although I just guess on the distance according to effort.

What you can do if you want to keep track of trainer miles AND total bike miles is to make an entry under the equipment tracker for the trainer and then choose that when you log your workout.

I log in bike as well and just created a route called "Trainer".  All trainer rides go in that "route".
