Pre-race routine:

At first felt like a stranger in a strange land. But, as soon as I mentioned this was my first race everyone I talked to was full of advice. But, I don't think anyone could have told me how to settle my stomache.
Event warmup:

Streched and ran a little to get the blood pumping.
Swim
  • 10m 19s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 35s / 100 meters
Transition 1
  • 04m 11s
Comments:

Need to work on my transitions. Fumbled with my helmet buckle and wrestled with my gloves.
Bike
  • 55m 40s
  • 17 miles
  • 18.32 mile/hr
Transition 2
  • 02m 3s
Comments:

I felt a calf cramp kick in when I got to the bike rack. I just kept it streched out and it let up.
Run
  • 32m 22s
  • 5 kms
  • 06m 28s  min/km
Comments:

When I started to run it was like my ankles wouldn't bend. I had to walk the first 200 yards or so to loosen them up. I was really suprised at how quickly the half way point came. But, my form was terrible and I know it cost me time.
Post race
Warm down:

After crossing the finish line I got a feeling I usually only get after hiking the Grand Canyon. I walked around keeping my legs loose and feeling ALIVE.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Inexperience and lack of intense training.

Event comments:

A lot of people told me this was a great race for first timers. I think they were right.

Course: They said fast swimmers in the front of the line and slow swimmers in the back. With this being my first race I didn't want to get in anyones way so I was one of the last to get in. Ended up having to pass 4 people I figure it costed me at least a minute. I'll know better next time.
