Subject: Which shorts should I buy? Confused
2007 was my first season, so I just swam in my swim suit. For the bike and run I yanked some shorts and a t-shirt over my suit and took off. Now, I know I don't really need tri shorts and a tri top, but I want them. I'm trying to stay under $50 for the shorts, as that is what I got from my mom for Christmas. I'll get a top when it is closer to my birthday.

I'm looong legged, and big hipped. I want at least an 8" short. I think I can't wear men's because, though my hiney is large, I do have a waist.

Right now I'm looking at the TYR 9" unisex race short . The size chart I saw only shows a waist measurement, indicating I could wear this in a large, but I'm worried about the hips fitting. If I buy an XL, do you think the fabric is snug enough that I wouldn't get any baggyness (is that a word?) around the waist?

Wah, I'm overwhelmed with information. Just when I think I find the right pair, it doesn't come in my size.

I'm looking for advice, but even a pat on the back would console me somewhat. I could just order the TYR, and send them back if I don't like them, but I hate to waste the postage.

What size clothes/pants do you normally wear?

I have a bunch of tri shorts and my favorites are oomph and Louis Garnau sp? Thing for me is I didn't want to jiggle so I wanted something long like you 8" is great that were somewhat compression like.

One of the best tri stores I like is tri-sports.com which is a BT sponsor ie you can get a discount. I called and spoke to a women and asked which would fit me best given what I wanted and she guided me to the great pair. They are the Louis ones but they no longer make them.  They know their stuff and are very helpful.

I was the tri-sports.com site earlier. They have a bunch of stuff on sale/closeout right now, too. Here's a link to their closeouts page:

My jeans are all size 14, but they are all baggy. I can't squeeze into a 12 yet, though. Thank you so much for the website! I have looked, and I think these Garneau shorts are going to work for me. I'm 15" from crotch to the knee, so 10" shouldn't be too long, do you think? I would order an XXL, because that is what is shows for my hip measurement?

Thank you, both, so much for the link. I've not come across that website on any of the search engines I've used, and they look great! I'm still a newbie, and I do need my hand held frequently!
