Andrew...My hubby is working Mission Man and I was going to be doing it...not sure with my shoulder now, but I think we will both be there. Maybe I will see you there! Scott also wanted to do Bandit's...we've heard it HARD!!! So...we may end up there as well!

Mike...congrats on your marriage!

Good luck to everyone who is racing this weekend! Can't wait to hear the results!

Well...training is going well minus my swimming. My shoulder injury has turned out to be a 'fracture humerus head'!! So much for PT...now I am in a sling. I am still running and biking though.

How is everyone else doing? We've been quiet on here lately!!

I am SO sorry to hear about your injury being worst than first thought, I admire you for continuing on through it. How long are the Doc's saying you will be unable to swim? Did your husband sign up for the Bandits Challenge?

Thanks Andrew...I am bummed about my shoulder too. The pain is still there so I am assuming until that has improved I am not to get in the pool. I am thinking however, that I need to get back in there regularly again and start doing some one armed swimming and kicking so I maybe tomorrow I will start doing that. My goal for now is get back in the pool by August...I am hoping that will give me enough time to get back in it. My HIM is going to be a challenge...and my goals have definately changed. Now, I just want to finish.

Scott hasn't signed up for Bandit's Challenge. I think b/c I am out of commission we may pass on it this year. I am contemplating doing Mission Man. I think I will try to find a swimmer and then I will do the bike/run. We'll see. Scott's working that race for Set Up so we'll be up there that weekend anyhow.

How is everyone else doing? Anyone racing this weekend?

Next week my running coach is out of town but he emailed us our track workouts. We are to do minimun 16 x 400's but more if we can. He gave us a challenge...everyone was given a time they were to run their 400m in and the person who does the most within their allotted time will win a 2 night stay on Bald Head Island! There are some pretty crazy people in my running who I know will do close to 30...if I do 20 I'll be happy.

Have a great weekend everyone...

Andrew

Well did my first open water swim today and what a learning experience. I was not comfortable at first in the water, then I kept stopping to orient myself to the course. When I was swimming I felt OK, but when I stopped I got a little nervous, overwhelmed is probably the best way to describe the feeling. I was going to do 2 laps for 1500 meters but missed my turn around and only did 750, so I will try agaion on the 26th of this month.

I can totally relate! I started my first few OWS's this week and felt the same way on the first day. I've been out 3-4 times now and each time it has gotten a little easier. (There's more wordy version on my blog if you're interested.)

The more you go, the easier it gets!

I did an 8k race last Sunday as my long run, mainly to get myself used to the nervous feeling of racing conditions. My goal was 48:00 (6 min km or 10 min mile) and I was happy to run it in 46:17. Nowhere near placing or anything but happy with my effort.

Great job Barb!

OWS's...yuck! My first race that was an OWS I almost quit. I was so overwhelmed with the number or arms and legs everywhere but discovered if I stayed to the outside of the pack on the right I was fine. That way I wasn't always looking at someone.

Did a 74 mile ride on the trainer yesterday...I think I have officially gone insane!!

Hay all, hope your summers are going well. I am well into my IM training with only 7 weeks left. This week is a 20 hr training week, I think it will be rough. I did a 1.5 mile swim in the ocean on vacation. Scarry but neat that I was able to do it. I road 165 mile over Sat and Sunday. That is hugh for me ... I also just past 100 mile of swimming over the past 8 months ... I can hardly believe what I am writing ....

 Keep up the training ...greg

74 MILES ON A TRAINER?! Who was holding you at gunpoint to make you do that?! I can't imagine doing 74 miles on a trainer unless I was being forced to lol. That is dedication (AKA INSANITY) After an effort like that I would be willing to come and swim for you just to see you finish the rest of the Mission Man! I have to look that one up and see when and where, sounds like it could be a fun one.

Congrats on your training Greg, keep us up on how things are going.

Kelownagirl, great job on the 8K, that is a nice time. What are you going for?

Andrew...

Mission Man is up near Greenboro somewhere. It's in less than two weeks from now...hmmm...our friend's who live up there said they may have a swimmer for me but if that doesn't work out are you intersted in swimming for me? Let me know. Scott is heading up on Friday as he is working the race and has to be there to set up. I have to work on Friday so I would head up to Greensboro after work. We've decided that I will go if he can ride up with someone so that we don't have to take both vehicles up there. It's a three hour drive for us. Anyhow...I'll keep you posted.

Greg...awesome job with the training. I can't believe you only have seven weeks to go. I think that means I have nine!

Yep...74 miles on the trainer does = insane!

I am now back to swimming (with one arm only). I don't really feel like it's doing much swimming with one arm but at least I am back in the pool.

Anyone racing this weekend?

Hey Leanne

I am glad to hear you are back in the water again, must be intersting watching you swim in circles lol, just kidding. I checked my calendar andc it looks like I am not doing anything in the morning of the Mission Man so let me know as soon as you can if you need a swimmer, if so I can make arraingments to be there and I will log it as my 3rd open water swim woohoo! I have my second tri this Saturday, a Formula 1 Sprint, should be a lot of fun. Is the water cold enough for a wetsuit at the Mission Man?

I hope everyone else is doing well, looking forward to reading some race reports.

Congratulations on your race! Looks like tri racing is a real learning experience. I watched a tri yesterday and a guy had a similar experience with his shoes on the bike. I had been thinking about trying it but not any more. I wish I had a chance to do more than one tri this summer so I could 'practice'. All my eggs will be in one basket. Next year I can start to fine tune I guess. Good luck on your Oly. Is it on the 9th?

Hey Kelownagirl

There is no doubt that tri racing is al about learning, I learned alot about what NOT to do lol. I am going to practice my transitions more and I am alos going to find a grassy feild to practice getting in my shoes while riding. As far as the Oly I am in, yes it is on Aug 9th in North Wilksboro NC and it is billed as the second hardest in the series so I am a little worried I have bitten off more than I can chew but heck that's what I thought on my first tri lol. This year all I want to do in finish and I am not worried about time or winning, each time I finish it is a victory for me and it makes me smile knowing that I am in a small group of over 40, 200# plus males that can do this sport.

Which races are you wanting to enter next year, do you have any in mind?

Hey Andrew...

Scott and I still haven't figured out whether or not I will be able to make it up to Greensboro this weekend for Mission Man. He is up in Raleigh this week with work until Wed or Thursday. I found him a ride but he would have to leave Thursday night and then I would drive up after work Friday. I know it's short notice...so at this point still I am not sure whether or not I will be there. I hate that I am not able to give you a definate answer about Saturday's race so...

I know you had mentioned that you were going to be doing an open water swim this upcoming weekend and I hate to leave you hanging like this...so go ahead with what you had a planned. At this point, Scott and I are playing it by ear!

Great job this past weekend!!

I don't know yet. I guess I'll try an Oly at some point It all depends on how much I enjoy my sprint next month. There are lots of races around here in the summer, Oliver, Penticton, Peachland, Vernon... Next summer, I'll be ready to race earlier I hope.

No problem Leanne, after this past weekend I need all the OW swims I can get lol. How are you feeling? Are you still training as much as you can with a bad shoulder? Setup Events did a great job with the tri I ran Saturday, this was a really well run event. I think the woman I am working with on our tri next year was really impressed too. I will be looking forward to more events set up by them. Talk to you soon
