Pre-race routine:

Had a little toast, although my hunger was much. Packed a got in car to drive to event. Great no gas. Got there in plenty of time. Roads were OK. It was raining and I thought great.
Oh yeah 4-Advil. Met up with Mike and Kam.
Event warmup:

None to speak of. When I got out of the car my calf hurt but loosened up and calmed downed walking to registration. Walked to start.
Run
  • 1h 18m 5s
  • 7.5 miles
  • 10m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

First let me THANK m-daddy for running with me, encouraging me and calling walk parts. It was good to have company.

Started on little uphill. Mike, Kam and I ran for the first 1.5 miles. Mike was treating it as a training run, Kam wanted to too how it felt. Mike asked what pace I wanted. 10-minute mile would be good. Kam moved out in front. I told he could get going if he wanted too. He replied it's a training run we'll do it together and we did. As we started it clouded up and began to snow along with some wind. After rounding the second corner we got hit pretty much head on. Mike pointed out we would take a short walk around the next corner. We did. We took four walks in total. We got a little coaching from a gentleman, but we didn't want to go faster. Please don't make me got faster. With a half mile to go Kam met us. She did well and was coming back to meet us. Thanks Kam. Of course you could have let that last hill be a surprise. After we got to the top and dodging the cars, Mike sprinted it in. Kam hung with me to the end. The calf, like a separate part of me, behaved to whole way. At 6.5 it said hello. I called a walk and it went away.
What would you do differently?:

You know lose weight.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to lodge and got some chili and chicken soup. Stretched a little here and there.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Pain in calf and carrying around oh, 30 pounds of fat with me.

Event comments:

What a great way to start the year. A good run and BT'ers to help. Some where along the line I figure how, I've learned to enjoy running. I'm glad Mike and I are doing this series. Thanks for coming out Kam. You can do one race if you want to so come on out if out want too. I'll get the next race up on my races. Thanks for all the good thoughts and concerned of the calf. I'll start ultrasound started at work tomorrow.

Great job Dudley!!!! I was a little worried about your calf with the slippery conditions.  Glad to hear it behaved for the most part.  I'll look at doing the next one, I enjoyed the 5K Saturday and have nothing race wise on the schedule.

Good job getting through.    Glad the calf didnt blow up on you.  I've been very worried about that.

NOW TAKE IT EASY AND GET THAT CALF WELL!!!!!

Its a long season ahead.  Don't blow it in January being stupid.

Ok, end of rant.

Glad you had fun.
