I have a mid-June Oly scheduled, and will be working with the 20-Week 3x Balanced Oly plan.

However, I'm considering also trying to work in a half-IM later in the summer - say late July or mid-August. I don't know exactly when/where yet because we're waiting to find out where my son will be heading off for college.

Assuming I eventually lock in on something, what would be the best post-Oly pre-Half plan? How long should I rest after the Oly before trying to ramp up towards the half? Is this even advisable within the timeframe noted above??

Thanks

Hey Robert! Well, at the risk of giving advice that's worth what you paid for it ...

If you follow one of the HIM plans--some of which have similar volume to the 3x Oly plans--you would be very well prepared for the Oly AND be able to re-peak for a HIM several weeks later.

I've never done a half, but it does take a while to come back from an Oly--if it's your first Oly/HIM I'd give yourself a bare minimum of 4 weeks in between (preferably 5-6).

If you want to do both, I'd strongly recommend using the Beginner Half IM plan and do the Oly as a tune up race, doing a short taper for it. A Half IM is a totally different animal than an Oly.

I will echo the opinions of the others here; use a HIM plan and then fit the OD into the schedule.  If you are on track with your HIM training, an OD race 4-6 weeks beforehand should fit nicely with your schedule (you may have to juggle a long bike ride but otherwise, should be pretty easy).

Good luck,

Shane

x2....this is what my plan is for this racing season. I am going to be doing 3-4 Olys (first Olys ever) and then a HIM at the end of August. I am using all of my Olys as just preparation for the HIM and treating them as training days. The HIM is my "A" race for this season.

All of that is dependent on my recovering fully from my knee issues of course.

Okay, thanks everyone. I'm off to look up the HIM plans!
