Warm-up plus 5k race included in that. Got a new PR for the 5k, working on the RR now.

Easy stretching before heading to the race site.

I am so excited about my new PR. Under 30 minutes for a 5k, how cool is that? I'm about to start working on my race report. This was a really fun race, and I feel pretty good about how far my running has come in a year. ***** Race Report is up! It doesn't have official chip time or ranking yet.

Running late again! Heading off to the pod. to get my foot rechecked again. 2 months since I had the wart taken out and I think it may be rearing its ugly head again. I can't be having that during training, no way. It already messed up my whole tri season, it is not taking down my marathon, too.

Rest Day! No running today, so I did a longer thing of yoga this morning. Felt singularly uncoordinated while doing it, but much more calm after the fact. More awake, too. My friend says I must respect where I am, then I can blossom along my path. I am enjoying the yoga, but for now I like running better.

I waited a bit too long after eating breakfast to go running. Lazy start to the day, I guess. Anyway, lesson learned for the race on Sunday: no more than 90 minutes between breakfast and race start. That means I should eat breakfast at about 7:30. Good to know.

8/2 run/walk intervals. I liked these a lot better, easier to find my stride. Pre run breakfast: 2 small slices bread w/ pb and the last of the milk (4 oz?) about 90 minutes pre run.

Feeling better today. I have the day off from work, and I'm really glad about that. Putting things in perspective helps a lot. This just comes with the territory of working with animals. Dogs don't live as long as we do, and death is always around. And at least it isn't as bad as working at the vet. I hated that. Getting attached to sick animals and then having to hold them while the doc puts them to sleep, the family watching and crying the whole time. I like this job much better.

I really don't want to go to work today. I'm going to have to put a dog in the crate that Maxwell died in yesterday. And then after naptime I'm going to have to clean that crate. And every time I look at 36-1 I'm going to think of Maxwell. I guess bad news comes in threes. After I left on Sunday (the day Maxwell died) there was a dogfight. A new dog that just started coming attacked one of our regulars. The attacker (a lab) is no longer welcome at the daycare, and the victim (a german shepherd) had to get 8 stitches above his eye. Then this evening I found out one of my favorite dogs has invasive mouth cancer. He's only five! They've sent him to the oncologist for the buffy coat test, which checks to see if the cancer has metastasized. They're pretty sure they're going to have to remove the lump and most of his lower jaw on the left side. This has been a pretty draining two days of work. It comes with the job, but not usually so much so bad. I'm hugging my own dogs a lot these last two days.
