I'm currently experimenting with gels to find out which ones agree with me and any that do not.  I've had very good experiences with Gu both on the bike and when running.  Today I tried the PowerBar Energy gels.  This was not a good experience.  I tried the vanilla flavor without caffeine.  Within about 5 minutes of taking it, I started to feel ill -- a little light headed.  I was surprised that the effect was so quick.  Anyway, PowerBar Energy is a definite no.

Next on my list -- Hammer.  This is probably the most important test since Hammer products are being offered on the B2B course.  I've had the Apple Cinnamon and it was OK but I did not like it as much as the Gu.  I wanted to try some of the other flavors so that I know what I'm getting into if I want to live off the course for the run.

Gu will be available at 26.2 with Donna.

Rode with the CSH group until Pea Rdige, then did Peak Ridge -> Old 1 -> Shearon Harris -> Holland -> Apex BBQ, etc. solo

While the orthotics helped, I broke down and got some Sidis today as well.  The Bontrager shoes are hard on the sides so my little toe and its joint have no place to go which aggravates the tailor's bunion.  The Sidis are soft on top like running shoes.  Since I was wearing Sidis before this problem, I am hoping that changing back to them will help to resolve it.  Don't get me wrong, the orthotics help!  I can get 100k in before any hint of a problem occurs.  I have a double century weekend coming up though and I think the Sidis will help with that for sure.

Today's focus was breathing. I tried a few different breathing patterns and settled on two breaths switch sides two breaths. I did that for sets 2-5. Set 1 was partly true bilateral breathing and set 6 was all on the left side. Breathing all on the left side is by far the most comfortable for me right now.
