With the deck gone and the patio not yet completed, we had our Memorial Day grillage on the George. It was still good! After dinner, I took Em for an extended lap around the neighborhood.

Afternoon walk with Emma. She was jazzed!

We had workers at our house Friday and Saturday. They were putting in the new patio. Emma was getting stressed out -- or else they were disturbing her sleep (which was stressing her out!). Anyway, no workers now until Tuesday when they finish the project up.

First time using the Nathan handheld.  On Friday, Kevin and I went to REI and I tried out handhelds again.  I quickly narrowed it down to the Amphipod line and the Nathans.  I have a Nathan Elite 1 hydration waistpak and I like the bottles but do not like the feeling of having it around my waist.  I like the feeling of the Amphipod Hydraform handheld (12 oz) but I really don't like the top.  I find it easy to carry but hard to drink from.  For that reason, I ended up with the Nathan QuickDraw Plus (22 oz).  I don't love love love carrying the Nathan handheld but I do like the bottle.

Old NCBC Summer Rally route

Good ride! This went better than when I did it in April. At the 56 mile mark, I stopped at Wilsonville for water and to use the rest room. Right after I got there, the CSH ride arrived. I left the Wilsonville store before they did. I thought they were heading toward Luther but they did not, they went up Beaver Creek behind me. The caught me and I joined their group for about half an hour. It was nice seeing Chuck and Fuji Tom.

Our old deck was removed last night in anticipation of our new patio.  I think that it took them about 30 minutes to destroy and haul off the whole thing (it was a big crew with lots of sledge hammers!)  We dead bolted the door from the kitchen and removed they key. 

Before I went to the gym in the morning, I always let Emma out.  This morning, when I let her out, she ran to the kitchen as usual. I said, "Let's go out the front instead."

She gave me a look as if to reply, "You are weird."

When I got home, I could hear the rumbling of thunder in the distance. I checked the radar obsessively as I waited for it to be time to go to the group ride. Trainer or group ride? Ride or trainer?

At 5:30 I took one last look at the radar and decided to ride to the meeting place. I got there and there were half a dozen others waiting -- not all in cycling gear. Ruh-roh! After about five minutes, the ride leader called off the ride after looking at the radar on his smart phone. I totally understand his decision. A group riding in the rain is not a good thing because of stopping distances, etc.

The sky was patchy with blue here and stormy black there, the thunder had passed and it was raining lightly. I decided to go ahead and ride. I *really* didn't want to sit on the trainer for two hours -- especially after waiting for the group ride to start.

My plan was to follow this week's route (this group ride uses a different route every week and gets longer and longer until Summer Solstice and then shorter and shorter until it finally peters out) but with a bail out point where I could head home with about one hour of riding done. If I had to bail out, I would make it my Thursday brick workout.

Well, about 30 minutes into the ride, it went from sprinkling to a downpour. So the ride leader was right. But after about five minutes, the rain let up quite a bit so I was fine. In fact, by the end of the ride, the roads were dry (I, however, was not!).

Regarding the ride itself, I can only hope that the weather slowed me down. I'm a better rider than that.

Ride tonight, hopefully outside.  Yes, the scattered thunderstorms are still in the forecast.
