Chiropractic = ART.
Both knees felt pretty good when I woke up this morning. Could it be because I haven't run since Thursday!?

Stretching, bending, pulling and pleading with the knees.

Recovery Day!
I need it. This is also a recovery week. The only biking I'm doing is Mt biking in CdA. Minimal running... a couple of swims... I can't wait! Wednesday will be a long travel day, though...

T-6 days and counting to CdA... EEEEEEEKKKK! I need to finish packing!

And in the photo flipper today:

That would be my me (in the middle) and my friends Nora and Lynn. The date was late August 1999. We were at a Company conference downtown and we got out early and went to North Ave. beach.

  • 1h 38m 14s
  • 23.83 miles
  • 14.56 Mi/hr

My enthusiasm for this was waning within the first 20 minutes or so. I just could NOT get comfortable on the saddle. My crotch protested the whole time.

Bike shoe was cutting into my ankle, knees were creaky, it was HUMID AND *WINDY*... and I didn't feel like trying very hard.

Forced myself to go 1 hour out into the wind... with a brief detour off to the North... turned around at the hour mark and got back home in 38 minutes. Uhm, yeah.

Averaged something like 12 MPH into the wind and 22 MPH with the wind at my back. All in ZONE 1.

Well glory be! I get to hop right back on my bike and ride it some more today. I can barely contain myself. Wink

Yesterday's ride featured 7,591.5 ft of climbing. Jam packed into 69ish miles. (Which, BTW is CLEARLY LONGER than a metric century) The route was a bit different that last year, and I'd venture to say it was harder. The fact that we arrived late-ish and ended up doing much of the route by ourselves made the whole experience hilly windy and lonely! I should never be in charge of logistics and timing. I will invariably be late. Chris knows this already but he wasn't there to ensure we got our asses out the door on time. At least Kelly had a good method for remembering the keys, iPass and bottles.

Some photos are up... HERE

Some interesting quotes from the weekend:

  • "I don't need to know your name. I just want to look at you and touch you..."
  • "I'm good and irritated"
  • "I'm cranky. Don't let me throw my phone. I like my phone!"
  • "Shunnna... shu shu shu shu Shunnna"
  • "Oh, she's older than I thought she'd be... and whiter, too."
  • "That's NOT a rest stop. It's a private thing for Erik's bike shop"
Good times.
A shout out to our girl Stacie (luv2ride)

  • RACE DAY: Horribly Hilly Hundreds 100K
  • 38m
  • 1500.00 yards
  • 02m 32s /100 yards

Chatting. Swimming. Chatting some more. I was tired and my heart was not in it. All I wanted was more sleep.

300 warm up
200 side kick
4 x 75 drills
4 x 25 sprint/easy
350 @ 90%
4 x 25 sprint/easy

And then I pulled the plug. I was just aimlessly flailing in the water.

TERRIFYING storms last night. Like some of the worst storms I've lived through. I was convinced a tornado was coming and my top floor was a-goner. Sirens went off around 1am...I woke up, grabbed the kitties and headed for the basement. Power was already out by then (and remains out now, I presume...) We stayed downstairs in the dark basement for about a half hour using my cell phone for light. After the sirens stopped, we went back to bed... but I didn't sleep very well for the next several hours... got onto the internet using my phone... and saw that there was "tornadic" activity near McCullom Lake... which is about 4 mi north of me.

Got up this morning and headed for the pool... There are trees down and branches all over the place.

I was too late for Masters... but I needed to get ready for work someplace with power and I had a swim on the sked, so I thought I'd give it a go. Jumped in, and felt immediately exhausted. My legs are toasted after yesterday's run, and I slept about 3 hours all last night. Swam about 1000 and called it a day. Better than nothing. Meh.

Trixie & MissKelly arrive tonight! Laughing I hope the electricity is restored by then.
11:37 AM We are back in business, baby! Power is back on! Hoooray!

I slightly overachieved. Yay! I want to believe I really could have run that fast this weekend @ Rockman. The only way I'm going to get even faster is to gut out these nasty ass workouts.

Nasty run tonight after work. I need coffee before I can even read it. I think it's the same intervally work out that jschmitchicago had the other night. Lord help me.

In the photo flipper: A more recent photo... This was after the SPRING FORWARD ride in Union last year...

That would be me, MissKelly, Bernie, MJ and Judy... This is timely as MissKelly and Trixie and I are going to be heading up to Blue Mounds Wisconsin this weekend for a little HORRIBLY HILLY action!
(My new phone takes much clearer pictures of pictures!)

PLEASE say a prayer, bang a gong, smoke a bong, light a candle, chant, do whatever it is you do for our gal Stacie. She just went into surgery to have her blood clot(s) manually/surgically removed. Updates available HERE.

Lots of traffic on the path tonight, rollerbladers, people pushing babies in strollers, dumpster... ;)

General stretching. My knee (THE GOOD KNEE, WHICH SEEMS TO BE BECOMING THE BAD KNEE) is swollen and stiffish. Icing today for sure, and ART at lunchtime. WTF?
Chiropractic = ART. Lots of bending and stretching and pulling and pushing on both of my knees today. I always feel exceptionally good when I leave, though. I feel great right now!

Heh. This makes me laugh:

I look like someone just woke me up. Lost my ponytail holder, so hair was everywhere.

PLEASE keep Stacie (luv2ride) in your thoughts. She's still in a Critical Care Unit in the hospital, suffering from blood clots in the brain. Send her some LOVE here

Meh. The 200's felt good, but the 800 killed me. I was coughing and hacking and gasping and it was not pretty.

Took a loooooong time for the old knees to warm up today. I felt creaky until half way thru the 200's.

I'm sure I will have the opportunity to try this one again.

6:25 AM Up a little early to finish folding laundry, do my core exercises and play with my new phone. Smile

Today's walk down memory lane...

Yup. That's me, Whitney, and our friends Gwen and Amy. This was my ALL TIME FAVORITE photo throughout college. Nice. It must have been humid. Yikes. That was almost 18 years ago! I'll apologize on behalf of everyone for the hole in the ozone layer.

8:53 PM: I never did do my core exercises this morning. Now I'm too tired for sit-ups. Am icing the defective limbs and will do corework tomorrow in the AM. Smallish bike ride tomorrow, before another RUN on Thursday.
