Went for a 2 mile walk about 9pm when temps started to cool off some.

What better way to spend a 90 degree heat advisory day than going for a swim.... a swim in the post-flood, sewage laden, water quality advisory posted lake.  Hey, I wasn't the only one in there swimming (there were a lot of people swimming) and the lifeguards were there so might as well make them watch something other than the waves.  Speaking of waves, they were REALLY tall today.  Ended up with lots of water up my nose whenever a swell would unexpectedly break into my face.  Most swells would just go on past without breaking, but every once in awhile I would have one crash right into my face.   I swam for 30 minutes and finally just quit.  It's hard enough for me to concentrate on my swimming in the best of conditions, but the chop was the worst I have swam in to date.  Probably not horrible for someone who is used to it, but it was very difficult for me the newbie.  Still, it was really nice to be in the water on such a hot day.

I needed some things from the store so I rode my bike up to town and back.

Long walk or whatever not happening today.  I slept in until 7:30 this morning.  Man, that was heaven!  Did chores, ate breakfast and laid back down for another hour.  :)  :)  Managed to drag my lazy butt outside around 10am and picked blackberries for over an hour.  Sweat was just POURING off of me.  Came in the house and just vegged out in front of the fan trying to stay cool.  I did ride my bike to town and back to pick up some pectin and canning lids.  Need to get busy making some blackberry jam once the house cools off some.  Might wait until morning.  Jam is done.  Tomorrow I'll make some blackberry crisp.  Yummy!

Took a ride up into town to get a few things at the grocery store. Kind of nice living out in the country where the shortest route to town and back turns into a nice 13 mile bike ride.

Ok, I am not even going to write down how this happened because it is totally unglamorous and stupid; but the day before yesterday, I strained my calf muscle on the same leg as my achilles tendonitis.  Bad news: the calf muscle strain hurts worse than the achilles problem and as I found out on my short ride today, it hurts some when biking too.  Good news: one is that I don't even notice the achilles pain today and two is that muscle strains usually heal faster than tendons so I am expecting a quick recovery.  Going to delay any thoughts of running though for another week at least.  Was going to do a long bike tomorrow, but may do a long walk instead since walking seems to make everything feel better.

Made it to the 5pm lap swim. Didn't count laps at all. I just practiced 25 yards at a time taking apart my stroke and doing some things suggested by the master's swim coach. Every once in awhile I would feel things start to click. Mostly I just floundered around. LOL! Ok it wasn't that bad, but I do need help. But help won't do me good unless I can spend time swimming. Only swam once this week so far. Pitiful!

It has been an interesting overnight.  We have had a repeat performance of last Saturday.  Heavy rain all night long.  Our rain gauge said just shy of 4 inches.  Further west of here, there have been reports of 7-8 inches. New reports of 10-12 inches.  The creek behind our house has flooded as high as I have ever seen it.  Sure to be the talk of the town all day today.

Plan is for a swim at the Y tonight if I can get out of work on time.  Done!  Otherwise, I'll just have to do something else when I get home.  I was hoping to get a lake swim this weekend, but with all the heavy rain, it will probably be Monday at the earliest until the lake is fit to swim in.

Lunchtime workout: walking on treadmill 10 mins then recumbent bike 1:2 interval program for 35 mins. I set the resistance relatively easy because of my AT.

I worked out at lunch; but after I got home, we some storms blow through and lost power about 6pm.  After supper I was incredibly bored so I took a two mile (roundtrip) walk down the road to see if anyone else had power.  It wasn't much of a sampling though because there are only 6 houses in that one mile stretch of road and one is Amish and another is a dairy farm (generator running) and I don't think two of the families were home yet.

Today turned into a day of slothdom.  Took clothes to workout at lunch, but just couldn't get motivated.  Thought about taking a walk after dinner, but by the time I came home, took care of chickens, cut up a watermelon, ate dinner, strained the homemade chicken broth that had been in the crockpot all day and cut up said chicken that was used to make the broth, I looked at the clock and it was after 10pm.

3.9 mile walk after work. Nice easy pace as I didn't want to push it. I wasn't sure how the AT would feel walking, but no problems! So I think I can add walking to my list of exercises I can do. Well depending on how I feel tomorrow. I'm going a little stir crazy not running, but I think if I can walk and bike, I'll be fine.
