Riding outdoors is getting harder and harder... I was racing home to beat the snow and rain that was rolling in and I got a flat. My hands were freezing and I didn't have the tire seated properly. I ended up wasting my CO2 and had to hitch hike home. This sucks! I've flatted on my last 4 rides.

Slow little AM trail run with Ramone... sluggish, but mostly do to sleep deprivation, not yesterday's monster run. Ramone looked to be recovered from his early week runs since he didn't go with me yesterday. He was a ball of energy...

OMG That was the longest/hardest run of my life.

Total Ascent: 5,923 Feet! This has to be a personal record!

I started at my house and ran up the service road to the Two Elk Trail Head... and I just started to run. It was hot and sunny and last nights rain turned the trail into mud. I was having fun, so I kept going. I had to cross a beaver dam along the way - that was cool, but I did not want to fall into the icy water - and I came to a fork... there was a sign that said something about a 30 minute hike to chair 5. I went the other way... A few miles later I came upon the China Express chair lift which get's you out of Blue Sky Basin. I continued on Two Elk Trail figuring I would eventually get to Two Elk Lodge. Already I was getting low on my one bottle of Gatorade and I was hoping that maybe some people would be working up at Two Elk and I could get some water and a snack... Two Elk is the Lodge that was burnt to the ground by a few activists a couple of years ago. Anyway, I kept going up, and up at 10 miles I stopped. I thought about turning around and just getting the 20 in but I felt that I was getting close to the lodge. I decided to keep going. I was now running in snow, mud, slush and more snow... the going was getting slower. I ran past highest ski lift on Vail, The Mongolia surface lift and got on the service road from there. It sucked. Mud and icy slush, my feet were numb and I had rocks in my shoes. Finally I could see the lodge. All locked up and at 14 miles in I was all out of Gatorade and I ate my Gu at mile 10. I traversed Vail Mtn until I got to the top of Game Creek. I have run this trail before and I new how far it was for me to get home. For the next 4 miles it was really hard. I was post holing and trying to maintain a running motion. Eventually I got to the Sunny Side of the mountain and I was able to begin the painful and steep descent. Zero falls!

I didn't plan on running this far, but it was an adventure.
