Went out for a nice easy run with Dash and met my friends on the way. I said "Hey, we need to arrange to run in the same direction at some point! So we started running and talking. They're faster than I am so that meant I came in with a great time.

Marathon is Sunday...yes, I am very stressed. However, to prep I have been listening to the music from Spirit of the Marathon all day and have listened to the movie a few times as well. Wonderful movie! I bought it off iTunes last night. I'll watch it on the plane on the way to Chicago tomorrow night.

45,000 people will be running this marathon...and I'll be just one of the stories out there. I am running this in honor of one of my favorite students (if teachers had favorites), Todd. Todd was in a very serious auto accident three weeks ago. He is still in a coma. He is a "tigger" like kid who enters a room and fills it up, and leaves it empty when he's gone. I miss him this year (he graduated in June) but was looking forward to many visits. So Todd, this marathon is for you.

Oh the joy of taper week before a "big" marathon. I think I like doing impromptu marathons better where I don't put much thought into it beyond, "Yeah! That sounds cool!" But when I'm traveling, taking time off work, spending family money I get all nervous. So today my hamstring is tight, I have a new pain in the back of my knee, and my ankle hurts.

Yes friends, it is TAPER MADNESS! I hate it!

On a good note, got two new runners today! Wahoo! I'm lovin' it!

Slowbee Joe today! But oh well. It's Monday and I had Monday arms. At least I didn't have anyone standing in my lane, or trying to get out while I was swimming.

Roy swam too. It feels good on his gouty leg. Doctor thinks he might have gout. How odd is that? He doesn't have any risk factors, beyond being a little overweight (but that's generally a factor along with diet). He will know when his blood tests come back. I'm glad he's getting it taken care of. It's only been almost a year since it started hurting. (Don't get me started on whining as a way to treat ailments.)

My legs are feeling great, all ready for Chicago. So I know I should be tapering, but I've never been very good at following directions. Decided to run to coffee this morning and back for six miles. While we were there Roy said he wanted to see a movie, so I suggested we just run to Subway and then to the movie.

So we ran to Starbucks and sat and read the paper and talked. Then off to Subway where we had lunch. Headed over to the store for a bit of wandering and some gloves (it was chilly this morning). Then to the movie. We saw Eagle Eye, which was okay. I do wish that directors would understand that action scenes, these days, are so "typical" that less is really more. Do I really NEED a half hour of explosions and car chases? No. I've seen that a million times before, so my brain starts to check out and I'm starting to doze. I want plot, not explosions.

Ran home from the movies and then made a lovely dinner of couscous and leeks with chicken.

Loverly run today! It was POURING when I started to get ready, but had stopped by the time I got out. I love this time of year for running. It's not too hot, it's not too cold. Baby Bear would love it. The fall leaves are gorgeous, and the birds are singing...in fact I woke up this morning and just laid there listening to the birds for awhile.

We ran (Roy biked) out to the Casino and around the pretty gardens there, then back to Starbucks. Had a homemade scone and coffee and read the paper for awhile, then finished up. No, I don't do that for ALL my long runs. Do you suppose there's a Starbucks 2.5 miles from the finish line in Chicago?

Taper madness has definitely set in. Eight miles felt like I wasn't doing enough. I'm looking at 2 and 3 mile scheduled runs thinking "Really? Seriously?" My knees hurt. My ankle hurts. But I know it's normal so I'm not sweating it. (Much.)
