Bike course (killed it!). No speedo so went by feel, gear and heart rate.

Run
  • 1h 44m 52s

Run course. Barely average run but didn't expect much with my fitness level and having pushed the bike pretty hard.

Swim
  • 38m 13s
  • 2100.00 yards
  • 01m 49s /100 yards

Swim course. I think it was actually shorter. Still had a crappy swim, but better than last year by 10 minutes.

Heading down to Cambridge as soon as our old nanny gets here to stay with us for the trip.  She'll help watch the kids while I go register and get the bike checked in.  It is windy as hell here at the ocean ..... joy ......

Rest day and travel day.  Took off the day from work to go to the oldest little bug's "slide show" at school then coming home to pack up and drive to the beach where we'll be staying.  We are going to my Aunt-in-law's townhouse in Bethany to stay until the middle of next week and make a mini-vacation out of the race.

We're here at the beach!  Time for dinner and some rest.

Out and back on Rt. 216 from home to test out the race set-up for Sunday. Wore my BT suit instead of the Team Gu suit. Hate to say it ..... but the Team Gu suit just fits better and snugs things up right ... the BT suit lets things move a little more which leads to uhum .... chafing.

Did a sweat calculation again for the ride. 176.8 before, 176.2 after and drank 22 oz. and took one Gu (1.1 oz.). Sweat rate based on that and the time is 46 oz./hr. Damn that is high .....

Recovery + Speed

3 of the shorter loops around the neighborhood with 6 x 100 strides mixed in. Actually felt good this morning. No residual soreness, and for the first time in a while it felt natural to run again. Hooray .....

1,000 yard TT in the wetsuit - 17:37 time (1:46/100 pace)

2 x 100 c/d without wetsuit.

Tried not to go too hard in the TT and just try and stay even and smooth. Arms felt really tight (and weak) but shoulder didn't bother me at all. Guess that's a good sign! This is a new TT PR, but doesn't "count" in my eyes since it was in a wetsuit.

I'd be very happy to be able to hold that pace for the race this weekend. My goal is to beat last year's time and feel fresh doing it, which based on the disaster that it was ..... shouldn't be much of a problem if I swim smart.

Going for a swim in the wetsuit today.  We'll see how the shoulder holds up.

Recovery

Very easy loop around the neighborhood to move some of the crap around from the race. Felt okay, nothing too achey. But I marked the injury tab because my shoulder is still bothering me. Tomorrow's pool session may be really short if it is hard to swim.

Rest day today.  Legs are already feeling fatigued and little twinges here and there in the joints from the race.  Plan for the week is really light with two easy recovery runs, an easy ride on the TT bike and a swim in the wetsuit on Weds.
