Extra long run today - last one before the Napa Marathon. As usual, first 2-2.5 hours were easy - kept right on my 9'15" pace. After the turn around (13 miles) it got a little harder, and right around the three hour point, the hills started to get to me. I could keep running, and hold a pretty good pace on the flats and downhills, but the uphills (lots of them) were killing me. I ended up doing a LOT of walking up the hills, and struggled to keep running on the flats.
I had hoped this run would be a big confidence boost for the race..... I'm not sure I accomplished that!!! The only "saving grace" is that this route had almost twice the elevation gain as the marathon route, and the last 6 or 7 miles of the race routes is almost dead flat, so hopefully the wheels will not fall off on race day.
