EZ run (pace slow due to ice and frozen snow) mademe slow down to high 8s at some spots

Today I am feeling a bit better but reflux is still bugging me. Anyway since I had ti skip my run again yesterday is time to get back to running. I think this week will be my last unstructured in terms of siwm and bike cuz not having a set schedule causes me to procrastinate :)

I also need to finish the 2nd part of the The Off-season, Planning Next Season and Resuming Training blog which I'll do and post this PM.

BTW, If any of you have any particular topic about training that you would like to learn more, have some questions or just like it, shoot me an email and I can use those suggestions to work on future posts. Dan already submitted his regarding 'bunions' and marathon training but I am not sure if I'll work on a post about that ;)

Since yesterday I've been battling a bad reflux case and it made me skip my run. I haven’t been able to eat much cuz right now almost everything causes me acid and pain, ugghh. It so annoying that if I deviate a bit from my diet and the problem comes back so fast and smacks me on the face. So back to watching very careful what I eat and take care of my body. I hope I feel better later to train although right now the reflux is also causing a bad headache since I haven't eat much I feel tired (not too mentioned I had a crappy night of sleep) I know, whine whine whine…

PBMC athlete Philip Dieffenbacher ran the West Palm Beach Half Marathon on 1:28 hrs for a personal best record by over 6 minutes and good enough for a top 30th overall. Congrats Phil!

PBMC athlete Jessica Herchsberg ran today the "First Things First 10K" under 49 min for a personal best and 1st place for her age group. Congrats Jess!


Ha, I have a weak moment and I almost succumbed and post a response on tri talk for another juicy strength training threads, until I reminded myself that I honestly don't have any obligation beyond my athletes and friends. There are several things I know nothing about and instead of offering inaccurate opinions I rather learn about the topic and study a little about it or just keep my mouth shut, but obviously others think different. If find a amusing some of the nonsense some people post and feel it should be take at face value cuz they have MD next to their name, classic! I am all for a intelligent discussion, but it is hard to achieve that when people only offer anecdotal evidence.

What's funny is that many think I am anti-strength, yet they don't know many of my guys do it in different ways and for different reasons. Plus as an athlete with competitive attitude, I like to stay on top of things and learn better ways to improve. But since I tried it myself and noticing no benefits  and I've forming my opinion based on the research of many smart exercise physiologists studying the subjet, well I feel at peace with my choice… But whatever, they are free to believe anything they want and I somehow feel liberated! :)

BTW, I got a PM from a few BTers inquiring why my decision to stop posting and mainly is because I’ve got a few bad experiences in the sense that after expressing my coaching views, some BTers expected me to offer free advice all the time or demanded certain responsibility from me. But I am not accountable from anyone in a public forum but my athletes or friends. I don’t HAVE to offer any free advice. If I choose to do so is because I enjoy talking about the sport and helping beginners as I once was and received lots of help. However, when some people expect is my job to do so, they are obviously mistaken. I don’t have to behave in anyway which is against me as long as I am not personally offending others. That been said, any of you are ALWAYS welcome to email me with any questions, I'll be more than happy to help if I can.

Anyway, I watched IM today and it almost made me want to do one, almost! Maybe in a few years ;)

Today I have a tempo run scheduled for this PM and that's about it. I am still taking time off biking and swimming but if I feel like doing a bit of both I sure will. at PBMC we've been receiving many coaching requests which is awesome considering the little advertising we do (mostly referrals :)) but since Kurt and I are at or near capacity, we are bringing in a new coach associate. Alex Mroszczyk-McDonald Amateur IM World Champion is now part of the PBM coaching team. He is also a Med student and knowledgeable about tri training and nutrition!

 

The off-season, planning next season and resuming our training.

Over the next few weeks I will be sharing with you some thoughts regarding the off-season and why is a good idea to take anywhere between 2 to 4 weeks off triathlon training in order to allow your body and mind to recover and strive for a successful 2008 season. I will also discuss some pointers in order to help you plan your next season/training and finally talk about how to address some of your specific goals on your training during the first few months of the year.

The Off-season
As athletes every year we go trough a similar scenario: we either finish with a great race/season and we get super motivated as well as eager to continue training very hard in hopes of better results next season or we finish the season with a somehow average or even disappointing race(s) and we can’t wait to get back to training and work on the things we know we could have done better.
