I heard a new kind of music out on this run that I can only describe as 'Spanish Reggae'. It was being blared out of a jeep about 2/3 into the run.
I didn't have it for this run. I don't know if it was the lack of sleep, the hard ride yesterday, or what...probably a combination of the two. I started walking pieces about 2/3 into the run mainly because my willpower wasn't there. My legs were slow but not hurting, my HR was in a good spot, I just gave in to the voice that says "walking isn't so bad, you know".
Hills, hills, hills. I did a lot of hills. I hit Satan's Buttcrack a couple of times, I went out and back on Legacy, I did Spring Creek a couple of times, and I hit Plano Parkway several times.
It was a lot of hills, and none of it would have happened if a random cyclist wasn't around to help me fix my deraileur. I was stopped & working on the tension of the cable that connects to the front deraileur because 20 minutes into the ride I couldn't shift out of the big gear anymore, and I managed to lose the necessary tension. He helped me get that tension back to the point the deraileur started working again. I have ancillary problems to fix as a result of this problem, but at least I was able to finish the ride.
I love old Texan women. I was running past this house w/ a Sooner flag(it's always out there) and an older woman(60s probably) was sitting on the porch w/ her 3 small white dogs(I couldn't tell you what kind) on leashes. They start barking as I run by and she only has a good handle on 2 of the leashes so the 3rd tears off after me. I hear her call to me while she's chasing the dog, so I stop and the dog runs up to me, stops, and just starts sniffing me. I start petting it and get the leash, easy as pie, then walk the dog back to her side of the street. She thanked me and I said something like "glad to help a Sooner, you guys need all the help you can get right now". Next thing you know, we're talking football and she's firing off her old-school Texan female charm. Imagine something along the lines of Molly Ivins, but shorter & brunette. Anyway, she said at one point that her husband is a Sooner and her father was a Longhorn and she's glad he was deceased when they got together because she doesn't know if either of them would have been allowed in her dad's house once he found out. She's good people...even if she is a turncoat. ;)
