We're heading to Austin tomorrow.  I can't wait.  I'm really excited about this race.  My race plan is all written up, bike is tuned up, body gets tuned up this afternoon (massage & chiro).  All that's left is to execute!

I'm more nervous and anxious about this race than any other race including both IMs.  I think it's because I feel I haven't put together what I consider a good HIM race.  At the other distances I have raced to my potential (at the time of the race).  But at the HIM distance I haven't raced to my potential.  To me, the HIM distance is the hardest race distance to 'get right'.  At the sprint and oly distance it is all about racing at the red line.  At the IM distance it's all about staying aerobic and getting the nutrition right.  At the HIM distance you have to balance speed and distance and nutrition.  It seems at the HIM distance there is a fine line between racing to your potential and blowing up.  In all of my previous HIMs I totally screwed up that balance.  And the result was blowing up on the run.

So, here's what I believe my potential is: 5:10.  If I execute my race plan and the weather and other variables cooperate I believe I can hit this time.  It's based on what I've done in training.

Stretching and TP

No running for me this week.  At Texas Man I tweaked my achilles.  It's a noticable feeling, not really a pain.  And it's not debilitating.  But, I don't want to take any chances.  Lots of stretching, no running, doubled up on the glucosamine/chondroitin.  I'll probably run on Saturday when I practice transitions at the Longhorn race site.

I can't believe I have a white square on my September calendar.  What's up with that?
