Group ride. Ended up getting two flats so I had to call Brynn for a pick-up. Bummer. This should actually be a little over 17 miles because I forgot to start the watch after we set off. I did the ride to the bench in "run" mode so I saved that workout and switched to "bike" mode but didn't start the timer until I was a ways down the trail (over a mile according to the map).

I have about 12 hours of work that I need to cram into 8 hours of workday. Group ride is tonight and it's gonna be a chilly one, I think. ~~High of 55*F~~ currently 63*F. Doesn't look like it will be too windy though. The bike is here! Makes me wish I wasn't so busy so I could try and put it together before the ride tonight ;-) Then again if I wasn't so busy I wouldn't be able to justify buying a new bike, so... you know. ---------------------------------------- Dude, it must be "Hammer the appraiser with ridiculous underwriting requests" week at the banks or something. I did an FHA appraisal a few weeks ago and took a picture from inside the attic to show that I had inspected it. I got a request saying "Please indicate whether or not the attic was inspected." I said "I put a picture of the inside of the attic in the report, I'm not sure what other indication you're looking for." They said "We just need it in text along with the photo." I'm half-tempted to respond and say "Then I need a picture of someone holding my report so that I can be sure that someone actually read it, along with your requests in writing." But, no, that would be ridiculous, wouldn't it??? Exactly. Got another request for me to include a sale of a 1 year-old ranch-style (1-story) home in a report I sent in on Monday. Except the property I appraised was a 106 year-old two-story home. Why they wanted that particular sale in the report is beyond me. I basically told them as much and the rescinded the request. It's like, "Seriously?" I spend quite a bit of time doing these reports and trying to make sure everything looks good, and then they pull stupid crap like this. And this is on top of having several reports due each day this week so I don't really have time to go through old reports and make these ludicrous revisions, or even deal with the requests when they come through, because I'm also needing to schedule a few inspections because of new orders that have come in... Suffice to say we're a little busy this week ;-)

On Saturday my right knee was feeling a little funny under the knee cap on the bottom-right side when I would extend my leg, so I decided I'd play it safe and do my long run on Sunday and take Saturday off. I spent several hours outside cleaning/organizing the garage and installing some 48" fluorescent lights that used to be in our kitchen and dining room areas. It makes a world of difference! Our garage also has this weird closet room thing that the previous owners built and no light gets in there so I installed a pull-chain light for Brynn to be able to see her gardening supplies and stuff. Then Saturday night I tripped over a laundry basket and my right knee started to hurt in that same area. I was so frustrated. I felt fine on Sunday though and did my run. To my surprise my right knee didn't hurt but my left one did. It hurt yesterday too and is a little tender today. I'm going to plan on trying to hit the pool later for a long swim (haven't swum for a week!) and try to take it easy today otherwise. Tomorrow is the long ride with the group, temps are supposed to be in the 50s. Eek! Guess I'll have to dust off the ol' shoe covers :) ------------------------ Huh. Starting to get the pain in my right knee again. I wonder if it's because I'm sitting cross-legged? Going to keep myself from crossing my legs I guess.

Did the 160bpm HR alarm again. I think I might turn that off for my shorter runs, since my "average" HR for the whole run was only 155. Maybe not though. I'll have to do more thinking/researching. It was another hot day today and I spent most of it in the car. After I ran and took a poop, I weighed 206.6. And apparently my scale thought I was 17% body fat (normally it thinks I'm 22%). Obviously the scale was in a very good mood today with all these numbers of false hope.

Sunday - April 1

Tough run in the heat. Set a reminder on my watch for 160 bpm and during the first half I could get away with slowing the pace to bring it back down but the second half required that I walk for about 15 seconds up to 45 seconds to bring it down. At about the 50 minute mark I figured since I only had ten minutes left I could just run it in. That lasted about 5 minutes, I took another walk break, then ran 3 more, walked, ran. I'm glad I decided to swallow the pride and honor the heart rate because I feel pretty good right now a few hours later and I know I would probably have a headache and be a pile of crap if I had just run hard. I weighed myself before and after and I lost at least 2lbs, on top of drinking about 16 ounces of water during the run and another 8 plus a donut afterward, before I weighed myself the second time. Crazy! I expected the water I drank during the workout to negate any weight loss. This is good info to have and I'll definitely be keeping a close eye on hydration for my longer workouts from this point moving forward.

aaaaaaaaaand the visit is canceled again today. It's a good thing we woke the little boys up from their naps so that they could get ready to go to the visit that isn't going to happen.

Rode to the YMCA and back with my Brynnie. Easy bike day today in preparation for a long run tomorrow. Hopefully I can get outside while it's still somewhat cool-ish so I don't die like I did last weekend. I'm feeling more confident about my running the past few days, not sure why. I haven't had any major breakthroughs or anything. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come. March 28, '08 was my first run of my IMKS training that year, so I'm already ahead of where I was back then. It's interesting to go back and read through the old logs.

Oh I forgot to mention, my Garmin was acting really strange and showing these crazy heart rates (like 190 two minutes into my ride, which I knew was way wrong). Coasting down the big hill on HWY 2 I hit 227 apparently. That's why the max HR value is ridiculous. I'd be surprised if the avg HR wasn't way off too.

Bio mom called and canceled the visit as the transport worker was on his way here to pick the little boys up. So he just popped in and told us and wouldn't you know it, two screaming crying boys. Nice. Super nice day today so we're going to go get re-finger printed for our f/c license (I thought they kept those in the system indefinitely???) and then I'm going to head out for a bike ride. Just going to do an hour easy. Maybe I'll ride up to the lake and back or do a loop on the trails. I'll figure something out. One thing I do know is that my legs felt pretty good yesterday and they feel good today too thanks to my recovery run!

Interesting... my run earlier this week was at a slower pace, higher average HR, and flatter route (shorter too). Contrast with today's run when I didn't feel like doing it because my legs were pretty whooped after last night's bike ride, and you get: ???

My quads are starting to become hard as rocks. I LOVE that! -------------------------------------- Looking at my HR data for yesterday I realize I need to set aside some time probably Monday to do a LT test to determine some new HR zones, as the time spent in each zone only adds up to a little more than an hour, and obviously I was riding for a little bit longer than an hour. The last time I did a test was in 2008, so the HR zones are a little dated, to say the least ;-) -------------------------------------- Updated my dashboard with my s/b/r goals for 2012. After approximately 25% of the year has passed I'm at 19% for biking, 29% for running, and 35% for swimming. All three of those figures are surprising to me. I didn't think I was so far along on my swim goal. I figured I'd be farther along on the biking for sure, and the running was a little bit higher than I expected. All in all I think I'm on a path to hit my goals for sure, and may have to re-evaluate them in a few months.
