Arm feels good after yesterday's swim feels good. Shoulder a little tight from compensating.

 

Craven Country Jamboree Party #1 last night. Thankfully no country music played. Went right after my sprints and spending some time with the still sick kids.

Boring evening overall as I didn't feel much like drinking or gorging myself. This tri stuff really cramps my lifestyle.

The big thrill was the story about the private jet having to return to Nashville because of a an engine trouble light. The second jet they got was a gulfstream and there was lots of talk about how comfortable that was.

4 x 600 sprints, sort of. With 400m walks in between. Very little energy. could have gone faster, but didn't have lots in me. I'm glad John made me do it. Some jogging before and after.

Took it slowly and tried not to rush myself. New pains in shoulder, but tricep ok. Now it's just the shoulder that's a little stiff. I think I was over compensating. Jason said I was swimming a little funny. Less jokes next time.

Okay, I'm up. I'm not sure why. Two sick kids and First Wife not 100 per cent. Life is grand. I was going to run this morning, but it is -19, -28 with wind chill. It's okay when I run with someone. Running alone at the crack of stupid in that is, well, stupid. I have to do sprints tonight anyway.

High possibility of swimming at lunch time. Worst case scenario, I'll just do kicking.

I think I'm going back to bed.

Freezing rain last night. No way was I running indoors. And I'm not organized enough (yet) to go running at the track in the morning. I'm just going to hang out today. Maybe two rest days in a row...what have I become?

Slept in again today. A lot stiff from yesterday's run. I was thinking about swimming, but I think I'll give the wing two more days of rest and massage.

-23 this morning. Running with Starcorp. Aimed at 2:00. It was so cold my bottle and gels froze. My jacket and balaklava also got crispy. Had to wear a second layer of tights and three layers up top and a hat over my balaclava and two sets of gloves.
I was never toasty, but I wasn't cold...although I was very worried about getting into serious trouble if I had to stop. We ran quite far from our starting point. Made out to Wascana View or thereabouts. Essentially the QCM marathon route.

Felt very strong. Could have kept going if I was dry. Got a surge with 20 minutes to go.

Walkbreaks every 4 k, or so. Didn't walk as much as we expected. Was too cold to stop.

Stretching in soaking wet, cold clothes after run.

Yesterday, First born had a track meet. His first ever. He was the only 13 year old doing high jump and 60 m sprint, so he competed against the 14-16 year olds. Well. He got first place in high jump 135cm and second place in the run. Imagine that!

Today Starcorp and I are planning our long run. It should be about 2 hours. It is -23 out. I don't feel like running indoors. Let's see how this pans out.

I'm going to a Breast Cancer charity dinner tonight. I can't wait its at the new Mexican restaurant. Other than Taco Bell and it's CanCon cousin, Taco Time, there has been no decent Mexican food here forever. The event should be a good one, it is for a neighbour's girlfriend, among others.

Everyone go lend some support to Marina. She's running a Marathon today. She's back!

Stretching after spin

Back to Crack of Stupid. And back to the dirty girl. Some things never change. Other things, like bike shorts, should be changed more regularly.

Did some significant self massage on my wing yesterday (using 5 x 10 glossies that Bopper sent me for "illustration purposes only") and it is feeling considerably better. now it matches the constant ache I have in most other parts of my body. What's that Leonard Cohen line? "I ache in places that I used to play". That's me.

Many of my formative years on my CCM mustang bicycle with a banana seat and a small front wheel were spent dreaming of jumping over greyhound buses.

No Brendan today...I'm getting tired of this recuperation crap. It is also -1billion degrees outside, so I'm kinda glad I don't have to go out. Besides, I have to listen to the news and to two early morning interviews that I set up. fun, fun, fun till daddy takes the keyboard away!

I massaged the crap out of my arm and shoulder yesterday. I think it is starting to feel better. I'm going to start building in some range of motion exercises today. If this doesn't work, I'l go see a professional.

I'm soooooo eager for cycling tomorrow!
